i've just joined the police. its takes at least 18 months from application to start date. so be patient.
first you have to pass the paper sift, you'll have to answer questions to evidence certain competencies (you'll see them on the application)
second is an assessment day. this includes interviews, role plays, maths and verbal reasoning tests (dont worry about these last two, they send you practice ones). its a tough day but it must be possible i made it!
next comes the fitness test and medical. if you pass that your guarenteed a job offer.
you dont need any qualifications, but i can tell you you wont be sucessful unless you can show that you have leadership qualities. driving licence is a must (although there is a guy on my course who only has his bike licence, he's been given 12 months to get a full licence though)
go for it, i'm really enjoying the job! they are great employers and really care about you. dont worry about your age, there are people older than you on my course
GOOD LUCK

Lol, My Smart-*** answer abandoned me as soon as I read 'no snide comments' - well I don't really think you need any experience as such (If you had any experience beating people up or using guns, the police would usually be after you anyway lol - sorry could not resist) - But you need to have a clean record ofcourse you need to be law abiding, you need to pass the fitness test, disability even things like weak eyesight are considered, you need to be a certain minimum height for a man or woman - and they give you the training required as they do in any job regardless of your experience - It won't be very hard to get in - The police station may seem like a daunting place, but on an employment level its like any other place you'd go to work, go enquire there - And If you tell them you actually want to make a difference, they're just looking to snap up people like you, who are doing the job because they want to, rather than have to - but they do hire average people - there are different levels of law enforcement.

you need to be uncaring, unreasonable, nasty, a liar, even violent etc......
even though it should be the opposite to all of those.
but if you really do want to make a difference then go for it.
there are not many but some good, honest police and those deserve respect.
as a woman officer you could make a difference, as long as your not like some of the b*ichy female officers you get.
have a look on the police website, it would have all the info there, good luck and if you do choose it as a career i hope you really do make a difference cos that's what this country needs

When you say West Sussex I assume you mean England. In the U.S. most agencies require an associates degree which is 60 credits typically. That is all the experience you need. They train you as needed.

As someone with retail adventure, i will allow you to recognize that counting on the size of the save, you need to properly be employed without a administration degree or adventure. even if that is a small save, you many times finally end up learning plenty about operations. at the same time as you do not fill out all the workplace artwork and bypass to the conferences and convention calls, you nonetheless see countless what they do as managers. once you're in a sufficiently small save it is better accessible to address a administration function and be promoted. even if, for me i could not be favourite manager a minimum of rapidly. the subsequent step ought to probable be retaining a sequence of keys which makes me a step below assistant manager. So i ought to be filling out morning or evening workplace artwork counting on after I labored, yet I probable does no longer be on the district convention calls. yet at the same time as operating, i ought to be the "boss" so long because the chief or assistant manager weren't there. And in a branch save, it is probable significantly better sturdy to get positions except you go by education classes or you've organic skill or a level.

You dont need anything at the moment, not even height anymore. Its all done on aptitude tests, and trained interviewers, asessing your character, and reacting skills to situations. You may even be a little old, though they reckon they welcome anyone, you may even be too white, as like all government, they positivly discriminate, as its against the law, for them to not have a certain percentage of different ethenticities, at the expence of ability, of the individual even. Volunteering in specials dosnt necessarily help entry. just takes you longer, you get older. Nowdays there are also civilian opportunities in support, inteligence proccessing, etc, too...so just go on the net, your local (county) force site, and national government site.

You don't need any real experience. They will take normal, average people. I am not saying you are average, obviously!
I hope you work out whether it is for you or not. Do visit the following web site & good luck
