Unfortunately, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, in general, cannot be cured at present. However, it can be effectively managed in almost everyone with medications and lifestyle changes. In severe cases, surgery is considered. Surgery does not cure the underlying cause of GERD, but wraps part of the stomach around the lower end of the esophagus to help keep acid from getting back up into the esophagus. A doctor can evaluate the condition and advise on an appropriate treatment plan.

The goals of treatment are: To bring the symptoms under control so that the individual feels better; heal the esophagus of inflammation or injury; manage or prevent complications such as Barrett's esophagus or stricture; and maintain the symptoms of GERD in remission so that daily life is unaffected or minimally affected by reflux.

G.E.R.D stands for Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease. it can be put simply as food and stomach acidity goes up to the esophagus.

Treatment is concluded in these lines:
1- reduce acidity using Antacids and H2 Blockers e.g. Ranitidine or omeprzole
2- using a pro kinetic drug to reduce backward movement of food e.g. Domperidone
3- Surgical treatment (Consult your Doctor)
4- Sleep in 30 to 45 degrees position
5- avoid eating before sleep for at least 3 hours
6- Consult your doctor to identify the cause and the treatment

i agree diet is important and elevating your upper body while sleeping, put some books under head of the bed, drink plenty of water in the daytime and no eating or drinking 2-3 hours before bedtime! nexium will help with the healing, but there is no cure but surgery!
