You aren't "First generation" until you are born in the country your parents moved to.
If Johnny was born before his family moved to Mexico then he grew older and had a child in that country, Johnny Junior would be the first generation, Mexican born.
Have a nice day!

Generation is the act of producing offspring, or procreation. Therefore, the children born of the immigrants would be first-generation born in the new country.

When someone migrates to another country, their children become first generation -- the phrase means first generation of that family to be born in the new country. Their grandchildren will be second generation.

My parents immigrated to our country. I also tell people I am a first generation born American. This way there is no confusion.
