To teach our children what is right (virtues) and what is wrong (sins) truly makes the world a better place.
Two examples:
1. The end of the sin of slavery in most of the world.
2. The end of most despotic monarchies and growth of democracy.
Would you like your children to live by these virtues?
+ Holy Virtues +
Chastity (purity)
Moderation (self-restraint)
Generosity (vigilance)
Zeal (enthusiasm)
Meekness (composure)
Charity (giving)
Humility (humbleness)
Or by these sins?
+ Deadly Sins +
Lust (inappropriate desire)
Gluttony (over-indulgence)
Greed (avarice)
Sloth (laziness)
Wrath (anger)
Envy (jealousy)
Pride (vanity)
With love in Christ.

I think that acknowledging the existence of sin is the first step in trying to be better. If slavery were not taught to be a sin, then it may never had ended. That's just one example.
I think everyone, religious or not, should examine themselves and recognize their own sins and work to improve them.

Well, I guess we value life more since people are so cunning these day when they commit a murder.
Or maybe we spend less money on marriages cause we can just live with whatever partner we want and devalue our bodies until we change our minds; at that point, we break hearts and move on to further disrespect ourselves and yet another person.
I dunno... any other ideas?
