We had HORRIBLE ticks in our backyard about 6 months ago. My German short hair had 10-15 ticks in each of his ears at one point. Each of my dogs are on Frontline, but that didn't seem to work as well as it should. We finally found a product that works great for spraying the yard. It's called Hi-Yield Insect Control. It comes in a concentrate, and there are a few different percentage levels (some are much stronger than others). It's somewhat difficult to find -- check a local feed store or farm supply store. We sprayed our yard, and sprayed again 10 days later to stop the egg cycle, and we haven't seen ticks again. We spray every 3 months or so.

Also, try spreading sulfur around the fence line. You can get it at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc... Ticks won't cross over sulfur, which will stop ticks from the neighbor's yard, ally, whatever, coming in your yard. Once we got ticks out of the yard, they were off the dogs and out of the house. We've kept our dogs on Frontline, sprayed the yard, and spread the sulfer. Good luck!

First use a monthly treatment for ticks and fleas on your pet like Frontline Plus. It kills both fleas and ticks on the animal and is very easy to apply on your pet. Call your vet for a supply. Try not to use flea and tick collars because they can be toxic for your pet. For the house and yard use sprays and foggers. Check out the site below. Spraying and fogging may need to be done quite a few times as the weather gets hot and humid. And keep the animals in until the sprays have dried or the fogger has dropped. Don't forget to clean everything like the carpet, dog bed area, couch etc. Ticks lay up hundreds if not thousands of eggs.

Frontline is the flea/tick preventative we recommend, and it works for thirty days. It's a topical solution, you squeeze the liquid onto his skin at the back of the neck. It's safe because the drug never enters your dog's bloodstream, so there are no toxicity issues. It will only take care of ticks on your dog though, not the yard or the house.

Oh, good luck. It took us about a year to finally take care of our problem!!! I had to buy the Advantage and go to the groomers every month, to help pick the ticks off the dog, and we had to bomb our yard and house every month. We found ticks embedded in the popcorn ceiling above the dog crate, and had to kill those by hand, I found them crawling on my kids! It was awful!!! My dog came back from being boarded, apparently covered, but when I saw them, I had know idea that they were ticks, didn't know what they were! be sure to check between you pets toes, and in his ears!!in his armpits too!!
