Why is it difficult for many to distinguish between the few people who are terrorists and the rest of Muslims?

Majority of Muslims are just people trying to make their living, trying to raise their kids and have a peaceful life.

People let those on the very edge of society speak for the rest of the people. My husband and I were just discussing this. Some people don't understand the idea of extremism. There are fanatics and extremists for every cause, and somehow they are allowed to speak for all humanity. That should not be the case. Middle ground people, stand up and have your voice heard!

Yap! u r right, n i always ask this question(to my self), but i never get my answer!however, what u have said is very true as i understand that it is difficult for many to distinguish btn muslims and terrorists b'coz when people hear about the bombblasts on aircrafts n others, people start to believe that all muslims r Terrorists, but this isnt the truth,right?.... n i also undestand that it takes quite a long time to make the people understand that its just some people who r terrorists n also give them tyme to distinguish btn these two diffeent groups:muslims or terrorists!

The same reason why people can't make the distinction between the actions of a few Christians and the rest of the Christians.

Pride and ignorance. People are too prideful to see past their own ignorant biases. They are too selfish and lazy to even try to understand things that are not a part of themselves.

The heinous actions of some Muslims, Christians and other groups are few and far between while the majority are just loving folks trying to make their way in this world.

People fear what they don't understand. And thanks to the fact that most people are learning their facts from 15 second sound bites on television, people dont even try to understand anything new. And it doenst help that television perpetuates that stereotype. Its not a catching news story to talk about Muslims who are not terrorists. Which is really unfortunate. Television has such an effect on people's opinons and lives, yet it is completely biased most of the time.

Anyone with a weapon, usually outside of their own home, could be a terrorist.

We all have our own convictions about right and wrong, but when you force your ideas upon others, near or far, you are in a sense terrorizing them. There is no excuse about patriotism's, following orders, or being forced to (a matter of life or death starts way before any assumed combatant arrives.) .

it is dfficult to distinguish between them because majorty of the terrorist are muslims i m not saying this because i m hindu but my friend as u know in pakistan people of the nation knows that there government are supporting terrorist then also they dont do any thing ,i know its is hard 2 oppose government but its not not imppossible ,i have many friend who r muslims and believe me they r not terrorist

Religious bigotry and blindness... and the refusal to learn about others before making judgements on their kin as a whole. It's the same reason other religions get marked as "Satan-Worshipers" or "Satanists" before those calling them these names even pick up a book to learn a single fact about the religion they might be insulting.

Look what they did to the Japanese living in the USA during WW2!!! They rounded them all up and put them in camps and there was nobody that even tried to stop them.
That was a tragedy for those people - if you ever hear any of their stories it will make you cry.

Well the truth is these are just people trying to defend their homelands from foreign invaders, imagine if the U.S were invaded now think of people you know that be would be on the streets fighting back these foreign invaders,now think of the people you know such as parents that would not be as able to fight them , in a social situation it would be hard to determine one from another.
