I would find an emergency clinic and get him in asap. It could be a scratch on the surface of his eye, or an infection, or even the first sign of an upper respiratory infection. With eye problems, the sooner you get it checked the better the chances of it healing. We tell our clients to come in immediately for eye problems. Do NOT put anything in the eye! If you put the wrong thing in it you can cause more harm than good, even to the point of causing loss of the eye! There's nothing you can do at home, I would only take the advice of a vet for this problem. Good luck!

I have been farming my whole life and at 62 have seen more cats /kittens with sore eyes. They need an antibiotic the sooner the better. The eye will fill with pus they will sneeze and soon the eye will glue shut and they get lost and eventually stare to death in some cases their nose gets covered and needs to be cleaned I have never caught anything from them but if I don't get to the vet right away I make a solution of peroxide and warm water gently clean the eye off then open the eye wipe it with a clean cotton pad with warm clean water then take a dab of antibiotic Vaseline (get it at Walmart) and dab a bit between my fingers and rub it on the outside of the eye it stops the eye from sticking shut. This is my remedy and then get it an antibiotic it's there only help usually it is an upper infection . I crushed the pill put it in some warm milk the next day they are already improving.

Dilute boric acid. Dilute it with water. (1 teaspoon in 8 ounces of water) and wipe the eye (with it shut, don't force it open) three times a day. You can find boric acid at most pharmacies. It has worked for me on cats for years.
