A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/jlFSp
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

If you watch how dogs play with each other, they often run up, grab a nip and run off with the other dog chasing them. He is trying to get you to chase him and play with him. Either reward him with a treat when he brings it all the way back or play his game his way and give chase. If he starts this after several runs, it may be his way of saying "I'm done" but when you get it and throw it again, he wants to please you so goes after it. See if you ignore it if he will bring it the rest of the way or if he goes on to something else. You can also tell him to bring it here every time you throw and he short sheets it. And if you want it brought all the way, don't go after it. Make him bring it on.

Try using 2 balls, he can have the second one once he gives you the first one. Works a treat with my German Shephard on the beach. I use a ball chucker, (ebay) and always take 2 balls. Once she brings the first one back, she drops it ready for the second one. Rewards are good too to show your dog that bringing the ball to you is a good thing. Dogs are intelligent so he should respond quite quickly.

I had that problem with my Lab. He would always drop it just far enough away to where I'd have to get up and get it!
Try this... when he does bring it right to your hands: praise, praise, praise! Give him a treat. Let him see how good he's done by bringing the ball right to you. You may feel stupid at first, but this worked with my Lab after a week or so, and gave me the chance to be a little lazy while he gets his exercise :) Good luck!

I have a border collie who used to do the same, she still wont put it in my hand but at my feet. I used to not pick it up and tell her closer she would pick it up again and drop it when i wouldnt respond. Eventually she got the message that i wanted it at my feet. It took some time and every time she bought it a bit closer i would pick it up and praise her. Try it it does work they are very intelligent animals.

i have that problem with my golden retriver and i asked the vet and he said its just a matter of what hes use to. and told me to put him on a long lead and throw the ball and call him back after he gets the ball and if he drops it before u say let go or drop it or whatever u say then put it back in his mouth and say let go and do this for a little bit ever time u play catch he will catch on to what u want to do. it worked for mine the first time but i stoped the training after the first time so he brings it back when he wants. but it does work if u follow thro the exericise.

Always stretch out your hand when he returns with the ball give him a dog biscuit if he spits it into your hand. Reinforce this behaviour with reward and praise for a few days. Presto youve trained it.

Our Labrador trained my husband to fetch in exactly the same manner. He will now even fetch in the lake!
