As a single parent with TWO special Needs children (now late teens -- one has Severe ADHD and the other has Asperger's Syndrome (High Functioning Autism)), I can tell you that is the reason I spend time at home and just teach them stories out of the bible myself. When I did take my children to the church, they were treated miserably by children who did NOT have to deal with the challenges they did (ever have you child at an overnight, and when she finally sleeps the other kids without disabilities pull out their makeup (why were they allowed to wear makeup in the 1st place) and paint her face like a clown -- then the ADULT Yelled at my daughter because those same girls who did it said my daughter stole their makeup!), and there were several adults there who volunteered in the children's classes that treated them horridly as well (and went out of their way to make sure my children's disabilities were belittled, and they were put down -- one of my children has fine motor movement problems -- which makes writing difficult. The adult belittled her for her trying to WRITE!). Too often I've had the experience that if you are different in any way, you do NOT need to be here is the message I have received

So, no, I have not found a ministry for parents of special needs children or adults, and I have not found a ministry that is welcoming to a single parent of special needs children or adults. It takes a very differently abled individual to set up a ministry where those with special needs are not only welcomed, but they have the ability to overlook some of the more difficult aspects of their disabilities (and that means any disability).
