Unless they parted on relatively good terms your Mom probably doesn't want to think about your Dad, so my advice is to hang on to anything she lets slip about him. You can use that knowledge to help find your Dad when you are older. Or you could ask her point blank how to contact your Dad. If she knows how much you miss him hopefully she will be sympathetic.

I haven't been able to speak to my son for nearly a year now and I miss him bitterly.

Im sorry for your family issues, but I don't think you can really miss a person you've never met. You yearn for him and you wish that you could meet him, but you can't miss someone you've never had a connection to.

Ask your mom questions about your dad. Ask her for more pictures. Do not ask all the time, just every now and then.

Honey, I'm in the father's rights' movement and I put in a lot of work at demonstrations etc to voice disgust at the way 'family court judges' steal millions of children from loving fathers. All of the men say the same thing; that they were given no rights in 'court'. I'm sure your dad misses you just as much.
