He could have turned it into anything He wanted; an endlessly long line, a redemptive and educational school, a place of endless sleeping... There are so many more humane ways of dealing with non-believers, why would he chose suffering and torment as the best way?

Hell is just another in a long list of myths that people believe in. Does it make sense that a loving father would send his children to eternal torment, with no break or chance of escape? If god is that strict, then nobody has a chance, not even the "saved" people, because there will be something that god will find fault with. But since it is only a myth, people should just on with their lives without being controlled or intimidated by those who use the subject of hell to manipulate others.

And if there is a hell, does anybody who is involved in creating war think that they will avoid going there when they are actively promoting murder? Very interesting, since so much war is fought in the name of god, in one form or another.

OK, lets get this straight.

Hell is Sheol, Hades, the grave. It is where peoples bodies go when they die. It is not the place of punishment. Read Revelation 20. Hell is thrown into the Lake Of Fire. That is where the punishment takes place. Everyone's bodies will be raised from the grave for the final judgment.

If Hell was the punishment why didn't Lazarus come out of the tomb screaming bloody murder for being punished? He didn't because the grave is not the punishment place. Read it for yourself.

Too many preachers have been preaching Hell Fire and there isn't any hell fire. Hell is thrown into the Lake of Fire and that is the first mention of Hell and fire in the same sentence.

And.....Everyone has been given the chance to accept God through his Son Jesus Christ while they are living. If they do not accept the free gift of salvation in this life then they have made their decision and that is final.

There are no second chances. None, Nichet, Nine, Nada! Make your decision now or face the consequences.

Because every good thing comes from God ... Hell is the absence of the presence God. Without God, nothing good can exist. Hell is such a bad place because the presence of God, even indirectly, is completely absent.

Why cast people from God's presence? Because that is what most people say that they want: for God to leave them alone.

If God were to put them to sleep, or put them in school, or to comfort them in any way, would mean that God is still interfering with their existence.

God sends people to Hell because people want God completely out of their life. So God does what they ask. God simply takes back all of the pleasures that he created. All that is left is the Devils pain.

You are referring to the fairy tale version of hell. In the bible it is described simply as the certain knowledge that there is a god and that you can have nothing to do with him for all eternity, having already failed the test of faith. It is described as 'pain beyond imagination, worse than being burnt alive in the hottest fire' and at some point that was taken to mean that hell was a place of fire. The fact is, most scholars would say hell is no different than your life is now, except you will be stuck in kindergarden, forever mired in the mud of ignorance, never to be enlightened. In other words, if you choose this life over the next, you will get what you wished for...

it's not that he WANTED it to be that way, but given that it is the complete opposite of being in heaven, it cannot be anything BUT a more terrible "place" than any human can imagine. Just like heaven will be a more beautiful and incredible place than any human can imagine.

If Heaven is " being in the presence of God, for all eternity", then hell is being cut off from the presence of God, for all eternity. What will make it so bad is that ALL will experience being in God's presence for a time at the last judgement. Those who are condemned will then be cut off from that and left with only the memory of that experience. THAT will be hell!

Ever seen the show Fear Factor? Contestants do things that are scary and sometimes torture-like (eating bugs, for example). It's the idea that if you fear it, you will do anything possible to conquer it. In the way of religion, that is being a true, honest person, etc. I don't believe, however, that any sort of real God would ever punish me for religious differences, and if he did, I'd rather be away from him anyway.

Hello friend,
After reading your question, I am inclined to ask you this question,
Who told you, or where did you read that God wanted Hell at all?

My absolute source for answers to Bible questions is God's Book itself. Likewise you, must have a source for believing what you believe and why you believe it.

What is your source of information please?

Hm mm, a good place for you to check out might be Matthew 25:41 to get an idea what Hell's original purpose was according to God and why it came to be.
Keep searching,

God created evertyhing with an equal opposite. If you believe that Heaven is bliss, you have to believe that Hell is horrible. A more humane hell would kind of defeat the purpose, don't you think?

Nobody sees and therefore nobody can describe hell. It is not the place but it is the condition of the mind.
If a man loves and be loved, that is his paradise; if he hates and be hated that is his hell. This feeling is not the same in each human being.
If a man knows that he loves God and he is loved by God, that is his greatest paradise. If he willingly deprives himself of this knowledge, that is his most horrible hell.
So hell or heaven is the result of a man's choice to reach his spiritual fulfilment or to bury his soul in earthly darkness. God punishes no one for his choice. But by God's abundant love, He gives man all His glorious names and attributes and shows man how to develop them to the highest degree. If man choses to observe God's command, he will attain loftiness, honour, affluence (that is paradise); if he choses the reverse or if he denies his privilege to make proper choice, it is he that condemns himself to baseness, to shame, to poverty.
It is the universal law of cause and effect applying for all men. More than that, it is not a blind law; but God sends successively His Messengers (such as Christ, Muhammad, Baha'u'llah) to bear all sorts of sufferings to teach men about this law. At the end if man refuses to listen, who is to be responsible for the result?

The Christian God is cruel, ruthless jealous and full of hate and rage. Deuteronomy 5:9 For I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, traveling the iniquity of the fathers upon the youngsters unto the third and fourth technology. (additionally Exodus 20:5) He punishes no longer in basic terms the sinner, however the youngsters, grandchildren, large grandchildren and large large grandchildren of the sinner. Joshua 24:19 "Ye can't serve the LORD: for he's an holy God; he's a jealous God; he won't forgive your transgressions nor your sins." God is unforgiving and unloving. as quickly as you piss him off, you're doomed. Deuteronomy 29:28 "And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in large indignation, and forged them into yet another land, as that's that this present day."
