Lots of summer clothes of course.
Formal attire will depend on how many "dressy" dinners you have on the ship. So check your itinerary. For the "dressy" dinners, everyone usually wears long dresses or at least short fancy dresses. Otherwise you can wear slacks to dinner (usually not shorts).
Hope this helps :)

I have been on dozens of cruises and its pretty much the same on all ships. You will need summer/swim wear for days on ship and on shore for tours and beaches. No need to bring beach towlels, they will be provided. Each day you can dress as you wish until 6:00 PM when the ship will request that you not wear shorts and swim wear in public areas such as the dining rooms, lounges, cafes, show room, and casino. You can put on shorts and go to the gym or pool at night. But you'll need (sports casual they call it) after 6:00PM. Your cruise will probably have two formal nights (if it is 7 days or more) and you will be asked to wear formal clothes Long dress, suit and tie or tux. You'll meet the Captain, have a drink and have pictures taken. They will serve a special dinner, like maybe Lobster and have baked alaska.

In addition to the clothing everyone else has mentioned (summer clothes, formal ware, etc.) let me add a few items people usually forget...rain parkas & umbrellas, ladies shawls, sweaters or jackets (it can get cool out at sea), swim suit cover ups (you cannot eat in the diningrooms unless you cover your swimsuit).
Sun hats or visors are a must regardless of temperature, (a little battery operated fan with a water mister is wonderful too), and beach bags come in handy to carry on excursions (make sure they zipper but dont keep your valuables in them--too easy to pickpocket), and always pack a foldable bag in your suit case for extras you purchase as they rarely fit in your suitcase at the end of your trip!
I also make sure I have jumbo zip lock bags for dirty clothing (although some ships have laundermats on board- if yours does bring powdered detergent in a zip lock bag with dryer sheets- you can get quarters from the casino!) They are also handy for wet suits that havent dried yet when youre ready to pack your suit cases!
Take along a pad of post it notes to leave messages on your door for each other. They come in handy to tell each other where you are on the ship or where you'll be at a specific time.
Its also wise to invest in long range walkie talkies-especially if you have kids. They truly come in handy both on and off the ship.
Lastly, take extra glasses, contact lenses and essential medicines and the prescriptions for them in case something happens to them (my husband's eyeglasses fell over board and thankfully we were able to replace them in the next port before we got back on the ship because we had the script with us)
Hope this helps--enjoy your trip.

In my opinon, just pack really easy easy clothes. If you'll be on a boat for a week or however many days, then you probably won't want to pack anything to heavy. Light stuff will must likey be good so you're not always so hot or whatnot.

Shorts, t-shirts, tank tops and sneakers for the days.
Bathing suits of course.
Nights/dinners...depends on if its a "formal" night or not. Dresses or skirts...a nice pantsuit maybe.
In your cruising packet, they should have sent a how-to-pack guide of some sort.
If not, give your cruise line a call and one of their reps can help you! :-)
Have a great time!
