It's theft pure and simple. In essence, the welcher was trying to take other people's money without putting up a stake. I don't know if I would use the word unmanly to describe the behavior in that even someone unmanly could properly pay his losses.

not quote "unmanly" just low-life and cheap. a bet is a fair and rightful aggrement, its basically like up-front lying if you refuse to give what you rightly lost in a bet, that's why God doens't like betting, people lose important things and sometimes it skrews up friendships.

if you can't afford to lose it then you shouldn't have bet it. it is unmanly and unethical. if you lost in a fair bet then fork it over.

It puts you in the same class as lawyers. I'm sure you're going to find a technicality to allow you to weasel out of your debt. Be a man, suck it up. You would have gladly taken what your opponent offered up if they'd lost. If you can't afford to lose it, you shouldn't gamble it.

That is called reneging. Al "Mr. Big" Rothstein reneged on a bet and got shot for it.

It's dishonest. Pay your debts and your lost bets or stay out of debt and don't bet.
