It's true in a few cases, and it's a load of crap. Traditionally, the mosques were only one big room, and the women stood behind the men because prayer includes bending over, and, I wouldn't want my booty infront of my uncle's friend or somebody. As for treating women as property, NUH-UH. Atleast not in the arab community I grew up in. The muslim women I look up to ran the show from beginning to end.
But I'm not going to pretend that there aren't men out there that act like as-ses and use islam as an excuse, and scare their wives into submission who in turn know even less about their religion. Any muslim woman that knew the words of the Quran knows that she is the most loved creature on the earth.
They say "heaven lays at your mothers feet", and to raise a daughter with love get you to heaven immediately.
You're also right about taking an example from African Americans. Middle Eastern people seem to be afraid of what others think sometimes, and just try to blend in. We need to stand up and show our true colors.
I'm done ranting, thanks.

Wow, I'd love to see what would happen to you if you were an Islamic woman living in a country that forced you to be treated as property. My guess is you'd be killed one way or another, or be severely beaten by your husband. Unlike america, where the values in the bill of rights are guaranteed for all, and the application of those values was not being applied, the values in the countries you're talking about comes directly from the mouths of the clerics. They ARE the law. Religion+Politics = bad news.

They are not forced to sit behind. Women and men sit in different sections of the mosque if they have one otherwise women sit at the back. This is done as a respect for women. Children cause distrubance during prayers that is why they are forced to sit back until they come to the age when they understand the prayers and the manners.
Mocking Islam if was the purpose of your question than you have achieved your goal. I thought you wanted to learn.

The Muslims believe in providing the women a seperate place to worship, so as to not cause them to be afraid to worship.
The black muslims believe the same,
Although, in many Mosques in the US, they are allowing the women to worship WITH the men, but so far, most have preferred to stick to the way it's been done all along.
As for women being property...
Women are to be cherished, since only they can bring another life into the world.

some are and some are not. that is uncomplicated to't make a blanket statement about all women persons of any race. splendor is thoroughly subjective and in the interest of the beholder. countless the folk listed the following are being very stereotypical, even those who're being complimentary. All black women persons don't have huge noses or thick lips or an identical texture of hair or sparkling epidermis or massive butts or perhaps darkish epidermis. the large majority of black individuals are mixed race even if or not they don't look to you - it is the reason maximum black individuals do not look like Africans. i do not recognize what women persons those who've spoken on own hygiene are putting round yet perchance you choose to locate a significantly better class of persons to affiliate with.

No one is forced to sit behind. First of all, islamic tradition encourages women to pray at home. However, if they choose to go to the mosque, then most mosques have seperate sections for men and women. If there aren't seperate sections, then the women pray behind the men, so the men cannot see them.

The same reason that there are groups of christians and jews that treat women like they should be subserviant to men - their religion says so... and was written by men a few thousand years ago.
Not one should be segrigated based on gender, race or ethnic background. Period. The only time people should be seperated from others is when their actions show them to be violent or otherwise hazardous to others, including spreading hate and bigotry.

However unjust things may seem to us, we have no place to correct and criticize a culture more seasoned and aged than ours. Beside this point, I think the treatment of Muslim women is (overall) better than we hear it is. After all, how many American women are treated the same way or worse.

Angela M is correct. I have a Muslim friend in Egypt who told me the same thing. It is for the same reason that the women cover themselves.

All Muslims don't do the same thing, same as christians, but maybe most of them still do that sort of thing because thats their religious tradition. Women are degraded equally as much if not greater in the Bible. Here's a list:
