I just adoped a 4 month old kitten from the SPCA a week ago. For the first few days, he was affectionate,(bump and rub heads and knead) now he is like non responsive. When I leave him alone for a few hours, he doesnt come to me, can he be mad at me? He waits by the door, until I come back, but he doesnt seem to be happy to see me. He doesnt know his name yet, and I have tried giving him treats, but still no response. I play with him and give him toys. I have had other cats, and none have rsponded like him. He just looks sad. any suggestions?

He is probably still adjusting to his new house. He also sounds a bit lonely; sounds like he misses feline company.

Some cats are very idependent and will only come to you when they decide that they want attention. Keep playing with him and when he wants affection he will come to you. If you are able to, you may want to get him a "friend"; especially if you are away from home a lot.

Your kitty could still be adjusting to his time alone or he might not be feeling well. Sometimes when kitties aren't as affectionate they might be feeling a little under the weather. Take him to the vet to make sure he is feeling well. Some cats may need a buddy. I've had a cat that couldn't stand being alone and while I was away the house would be destroyed (curtains off the windows, everything on the couters knocked over etc). I picked out a friend for him and he no longer destroyed the house while I was away. When you leave the house to go to work or to run errands let him know you'll be back and maybe leave a shirt or sock or something with your scent on it to help comfort him.

Your cat can most certainly be upset at you for leaving. He may have believed his ordeal at the SPCA was over when you adopted him, then experienced those feelings again when you abandoned him for a few hours.

For the first few weeks or so, you may wish to limit your time away. and ease him into your absences until he becomes accustomed to being alone, and is confident you're coming back.

Male cats are tempremental and moody even at young age! He does get mad at you when you leave him home alone in new inviroment! He has still not got over SPCA shock yet! Please have him neutered fast or you will have a very moody cat. Once neutered he will become very affectionate kitty, and not pee on your things to show you who is king cat!!!

Give him a little more time to get use to the new surroundings. He may not be use to being alone and not like it. Be gentle and don't play rough or he may turn out to be a mean cat.
