Faith itself is (usually) a good thing. That is why freedom of religion is enshrined in the US constitution. It is important, though, to temper your faith with real life and societal values. Worshipping in your home or place of worship (aka church/temple/mosque) is most definitely alright, and even encouraged. It is not alright to actively convert other people to your religion if they are not welcome to the idea. Imagine how a Christian would feel should a satanist repeatedly try to convert him (quoting satanic verses repeatedly)? The issue arises so much with the judeo-christian religions because a literal requirement of those faiths is to actively convert others (or kill them if they won't convert, but most westerners don't go that far these days).

As for purpose, leading a good life, working for the betterment of one's life and the lives of their children, and their loved ones, and to feel beloved..., that is quite a lot of purpose. The atheists I know are among the happiest people I know. I know people of strong faith who are happy as well, so it doesn't seem that faith=happiness. I think some people NEED faith to be happy, and some cannot be happy with faith..

in life, I don't think it really matters so long as you're a good person and you are happy..., what else is there?

(to head off the "if you don't believe you will go to hell", ponder this: gandhi, good person, non-christian = hell... hitler, bad person, devout christian believing he was doing the work of God, goes to heaven)

It's funny that you say nothing about being Christian but everyone seems to have taken your Question as a chance to bash Christians. Ok
With that said. The reason why people believe it to be wrong is because of the increased emphasis on individualism. As though following a Religion takes away your individualism. Do laws that murder is wrong or drinking under the influence take away your individualism. I also don't break the law. I believe there is a right and wrong. The thing to figure out is what religion is right or wrong? I can't believe how if you follow a religion the PC thought is that you are blind and unable to think for yourself. I choose to follow the religion I follow because I believe the "rules" I follow lead to happiness. Of course other people who don't belong to my religion are happy, but not in the same way. And why do people take your question as a oppertunity to ask you to not "force" your beliefes on other people. Ok. I have never forced my beliefs on people. I have discussed what I believe and why and have been more than open to people doing the same. If you aren't open to learn other's beliefes then, how do you know that your religion is true (or lack of religion)? And I would like to mention too hat in my experience my Atheist friends are more "forceful" than my buddist, hindu, Jewish and Christian friends. It's true to that the only oppinion people get angry about us expressing is religious beliefes? I mean COME ON. Could we not also take that for any oppinion? 'Don't tell me you like this movie. I hated it. And by telling me you liked it you are forcing your pesonal oppinion on me"

My belief in all of this is that it is not so much that you believe in a religion per say... but a spiritual belief is very important. It creates a morality and a standard in treating others the way you would like to be treated. My personal belief is that if more people were actually striving for a higher spiritual enlightenment rather then being caught up in the laws of what to wear, whom to marry, how much (if any) make up to wear, like a lot of religions do, there would be a lot more harmony and acceptance in the world.

The Politically Correct crowd seems to think so and I wish the Politically Correct crowd would move to a Country that bans Religion.

No, it is not wrong to have religious beliefs. But to me religion is sort of a form of law & it is used to control people. Believe what you want, at one point, I actually believed in Santa. Think about it. then go here: there are other links to this page.

Yeah, but just keep it to yourself. Stop trying to paint the walls with your religion. We don't need the commandments in schools, we don't need your religion deciding how other people live their lives, you loon!

How could it be wrong? It is an entirely personal choice. I am Catholic and I intend to die one. We all have the choice what if anything to believe and practice.

It's only wrong when you expect everyone else to abide by them.
