You get up early enough to get to the lake, pond, river to get to your favorite spot before everyone else. It doesn't matter if you're shore or boat fishing. You and / or your group are pulling in fish and are having a great time. Another group or boat, seeing that your doing well, comes to your position uninvited and starts disrupting you and or your groups pleasent day (tangling your lines, kids throwing rocks in the water, etc.). This has happened to me several time this year alone, mostly on the shore.
You do not own the shore line and of course you do not own the water.
I have pleaded a few occurances that I / we here first and kindly asked the other party to leave and mostly was greeted with either a F-U look or ignored completely.
Has this ever happened to you, or have you done this to others?
And if this has happened to you how did you deal with it?
I would like to hear from both sides.

Not everyone is a sportsman. Most are just fisherman. As a sportsman and part time tournament fisherman... I have had it happen alot... even in tournaments. I have a great time with it though... usually because I have already decoded what the fish are looking for. Even when others pressure the fish more... I still manage to catch fish.... usually alot more than the guy that pulls up into my spot.
Yes, its frustrating.... but I am a sportsman... not them. As a sportsman... I would never pull up on someone else.... I have left or stayed well away from places I usually go... just because someone else it already there.... I'll pull back 400 or 500 yards.... and it doesn't matter if they are catching fish or not. I know I am the bigger person and the better sportsman.

I really dislike it when they just walk over and start fishing like that. So what I do Is I get out the big stuff. Mukie baits and poles, They work well for northern pike as well and some largemouth are just crazy enough to hit them too. That usually gets the other party to leave in a hurry! And if that doesn't work I have my friend the local game warden on speed dial with the cell. Place a little call and let him know of the situation, he can come and check them out.

However if they are coutieous and ask first, Then HELL YEAH come on over. Those people are usually relatively new to the sport and it gives them a chance to ask questions and I can give my knowledge to them. Also have made quite a few good friends this way.

As a devout angler I can sympathize with you. During my last fishing trip I actually passed up another fisherman by almost a mile before dropping back into the stream so he would have enough water to fish. Not everyone follows these unwritten codes of outdoor sports. I prefer catch and release with single barbless hooks myself but I am not at all opposed to fishing with a worm and keeping what you will eat. It's not even a matter of fishing ethics but just simple common courtesy which a lot of people just don't have.

it happens often. i was flyfishing my favorite lake anchored on my favorite drop off and having a great time releasing lots when i realised that others had crouded me so badly that i had no room for a backcast. i pulled the anchor and moved a few hundred yards and resumed fishing. within 45 mins the same thing happened. i asked them what they were doing and got the F-U answer and was told that some people like to keep fish to eat.
some poeple just don't understand what acceptable fishing practises are and i know that ignorance is no excuse but we have to accept it and bite our tongues at times. being ethical is something we have to be proud of and hopfully others will learn by our example. frustration should not be allowed to ruin our day.
there are some great answers regarding your question and with your attitude you are welcome to fish next to me anytime.
thankyou for bringing a frustrating situation up for a discussion.

never DONE that--hope i don't... if i do, SHOOT me! inconsideration and ignorance are rampant in our country today........... not much can be done cause if they're so ignorant they do that stuff, then they're too ignorant to recognize it when you point it out. If it wasn't immoral or illegal I'd opt for the
"fire a warning shot between the eyes" philosophy. Ask politely,
and if it doesn't work either leave or keep fishin' whichever makes YOUR day better.... tight lines!

This has happened to me several times. unfortunately, there's not alot you can do about it because some people these days are just rude and inconsiderate. If they're taking over your area, obviously they are not true fishermen. The real outdoors people know the outdoor code of ethics.

There are idiots everywhere now! The only thing that I can tell you is , go where the idiots are not. Remember stupid people don"t know their stupid! Make lots of noise, poles up,search for fish away from the stupids. Who knows you may find a bigger school.

This has happened to me , and it's infuriating. Of course, there isn't much you can do, besides trying to appeal to the infringing party's sense of fairness. Outside of that, I would just go and find another spot.
