LOL! I just clicked on your question to see exactly how many Americans would point out that you spelt the word wrong.
Hmmm.... the British way was here first. I think we should stick with it.
Sorry, where was I? I haven't pointed it out to anyone, actually, mostly due to lack of courage and a whole lot of apathy. But I tell ya .... it does get on your nerves, doesn't it? And I have to agree with another poster; the other thing that jars my mind is the wanton disregard for which you're or your to use.
Don't we all go to school? Haven't we all been taught grammar and vocabulary? It's really quite annoying.
Thanks for letting me rant!

This bothers me terribly. I see this most often at the grocery store, and it's usually not a spelling error, but a punctuation error. This is even worse. At my local grocery store, there's a shopping cart in the bakery section with a sign on it that reads, "Oop's, we baked to much! 50% off." First of all, the apostrophe in the "oop's" is wrong, and to add insult to injury, they used the wrong form of "to". I was having an especially bad day one day a few weeks ago and seeing this sign yet again was the straw that broke the camel's back. I marched over to the bakery counter to tell the lady there that the sign really bugged me, and then I realized that she was a little "slow", and probably made the sign herself. I walked away and haven't thought about it since.
What REALLY bugs me is at the sign at the express lane (10 items or fewer). That's how it's supposed to read. They always read "10 items or less." It's NOT less, it's fewer!!! And these are signs that all the stores uses that are professionally designed/built for the store. What's wrong with people?

One night I was walking back in my dorm and I saw a girl hanging a sign saying that if you received good grades for the semester to see the RD and you'll get a sticker. Well, I noticed several spelling errors and pointed them out.
She didn't feel like making a new banner so she just corrected them (after about 5 min. of my saying she seriously can't hang it up with the errors). It looked really horrible and she hated me since then.

I used to work in a bad part of Chicago. On the way to work there was a junk yard, more or less, and the sign said "All Sells Finale". I never said anything about it because, as I said, I was in a bad part of Chicago and I'm sure everyone in the hood knew what the sign meant.

It drives me nuts. So does the incorrect use of "to, too, and two", or "there and their". By the way, "spelt" isn't a word since we're on the subject. It's "spelled".

Hell yes, it annoys me incredibly. But I never say anything. But this one really is killing me. I get bills from a medical company, the Arthur James Hospital, and their billing says "Author James"--that's driving me nuts. This is a freakin' teaching hospital at a state university. And they can't spell their own name right?????
I have written on many, many payments to draw it to someone's attention. I'm sure it was a simple typo that never got caught, in their computer, but evidently no one in billing gives a dang. That is sooooo pathetic.

Yes it does bother me. You know what else irritates me? When Brittish people cop an attitude about spelling and grammar. I speak American english because I live in America (by choice).

Not really. If I had a camera when I saw it I would take a picture of it and send it to Jay Leno, for his funny advertisements segment.
