The obvious answer to this is no, its the job of the police and courts! Right that's got the politically correct cra* out of the way!
Now if some drugged up junkie killed my child, and was given a couple of years in jail, plus a course of re hab!
I'm not going to be very happy about that!
The police have done their job, the court has done its job. So every one should now be satisfied, justice has been done and seen to be done!
If a paedophile is released from jail after a couple of years because a very clever doctor has pronounced he is 'cured', he is then secretly moved into my street and rapes my child, and possibly a few other children, he will be severely punished and have to spend another couple of years in jail!
Now if I bumped into either of these guys , and lost my temper, I'm pretty sure the police would catch up with me' I would plead 'extreme provocation' and I would have a dose of a couple of years in jail, with suitable remission for good behaviour, would it be worth it??
The reason the police don't inform locals that a paedophile is moving in their area in the UK is because they know local 'vigilanties' will not only smash their house up but also smash them up! Apparently this doesnt happen in USA? The locals are informed, and things appear to work out!
So we now have some high powered MP visiting the States to find out why , I would also be interested to find out why?
Your question was should vigilantees be encouraged?
If I say yes, then I am guilty of 'inciting Hatred', so my answer is no ! Treat all criminals with respect!
Treat child abusers as you would wish yourself to be treated!
Forgive rapists, they have just had a rough upbringing.
I'm thinking of standing as the next Pope, any chance??

Not to the extreme of a posse hanging a person without a trial. The great thing about our court system is it's objectivity. Vigilantes are the antipodean article to objectivity. They have a personal and terrible outrage, which is not the way sentencing should be done.

I know that if I was suspected of a heinous crime I'd want an impartial party overseeing the proceedings. There's justice and there's revenge and a very narrow path between the two.

I do, however, believe it's important for communities to police their own, but final arbitration must be done by the courts.

Of course I'm a hypocrite in that if anyone close to me was ever harmed I would bring down the guilty party myself with all requisite haste and violence.

There were the demonstrations against paedophiles a few years ago, whipped up by the British National Party. Except they demonstrated outside of the house of a PAEDIATRICIAN (childrens doctor) and the police had to take the doctor and her 10 year old daughter into protective custody.
Lets be very clear about this. These people believed that
1) Perverts advertise in the phone book.
2) The best way to promote child safety is attack the house so the child is driven off in a police car, away from you.

The police are the criminals.
Vigilantes need restriction.
I believe that very few people are mentally fit to be vigilantes. For example do you let someone who has been brought up in a way where they think that they should NOT "surpass them self's" and any body who Trys must be taken down a peg. This type of person is prevalent in council estates and slums all over the world.Nobody is mentally strong enough to be a vigilante. The police aren't working so makes you think that Gangs making up their own rules up will.

It will take vast social change to correct these problems Violence alone will not be enough. sociology will provide the answers

Unfortunately the sort of people who support vigilantism are usually the ill educated thugs that would not know the difference between a paedophile and a paediatrician.

By not getting the job done, the existing local authorities (police, government, etc) are actually implicitly encouraging vigilantism. Sooner or later somebody's gonna do something...

Did you see the story of the Paediatrician who's home was attacked because the half wits who decided to take revenge thought she was a paedophile!!!

Does that answer your question on vigilantes!

What sort? If they only targeted criminals with solid proof then i`d be OK with that, but people going around and attacking people on a hunch I would be totally against, If they were like Batman,Punisher Etc.... It would be all good

no because they would become the problem , just like some of the dirty cop and sheriffs out there now . they watch Americas Most Wanted on TV then get the feeling like they are bullet proof and 12 feet tall.
