He was dropped off about a week and a half ago, still so small that I had to keep wetting his eyes so they wouldnt mat up, and I started him on kitten formula and that doesnt seem to satisfy him so I started him on soft canned food and supplimented that with the bottle still. Today, I gave him some canned food and water. I dont want to over fed him, but I dont want him hungry either. How much is too much? And what would be enough?

The rule of thumb is that a kitten should eat as much as it seems to want. Usually a six ounce can of kitten food is enough and he may need a little more for a while.

I commend you for using the canned food! It is the best for his urinary tract. Use only the highest quality (expensive) dry food if you have to be away during the day and can't feed him every four hours when he is this young.

And some raw food would be wonderful! In a few weeks try him on some raw chopped up (three, four pieces) chicken wings which you can buy from the supermarket (must be hormone and antibotic free). They usually come in large packages and can be frozen and thawed out for a meal. To this you can add chicken hearts and gizzards (I trim a lot of grissle off these as they are very tough). A small amount of raw chicken liver (do not overdo this as the Viamin A is not water soluble and can have adverse effects in excess)
This is a complete and balanced meal for the kitten -- lean muscle meat, a little fat from the skin, calcium from the bone, taurine in the heart and gizzard. If you give him this meal two or three times a week you will have a very healthy boy who will never need to have a dental! Also it is too cute as they growl over it and may carry it around to eat in a quiet corner.

And use many small servings throughout the day. Especially before bedtime as seven or eight hours is a long time for a kitten of that age to go without food. Their tummies aren't any bigger than quarters and with their boundless energy they burn the calories fast.

Kittens should eat about two tablespoon portions every six hours. Don't feed him milk. You can leave dry kittie food down in between. If he's hungry, he'll munch that.

I have never known a cat to gorge. I would just let it eat until it is full. What did the vet say? That is what he went to school for and I would pick his brains and trust what he says rather than trust strangers with advice about a living being. Good luck.

My poodle develop into an identical, he's 6 or 7 now, I forgot, yet he remains an identical! He under no circumstances eats canines foodstuff, I even ought to blend it with canines meat snacks then he eats it. at the same time as he develop into small I positioned lots of the foodstuff into his mouth and he spit it out, attempt doing it on your cat. the toddler has to get used to the style. Or attempt diverse cat foodstuff.

A kitten at this age should be allowed to eat all they want. And often. About evey 3 hours you should offer it food.

Puppies should be fed all they will eat. Kittys probably the same applies.
