he has had it for a week and has been using calamine lotion on it and it is still spreading.

There is a two step solution called Ivy Dry.
It works very well and I use it when I get any kind of Ivy rash.
It is sold over the counter at the local drugstore.
It has a pre wash and a creme that you apply.

OATMEAL!!!!! OATMEAL !!!!! Go to the store and buy the OLD FASHION QUAKER OATS OATMEAL ( NOT the instant kind) dump the whole container in a bowl add very cold water just enough to make a paste and cover your husband where ever he has broken out keep this up until he shows sings of releif letting it dry to a crust in between applications I am not sure but something in the Oat plant can halt or counteract the irritation that's what I remember being told when I fell into poison oak as a child my mama turned me into an Oatmeal cookie ha ha ha Good luck !!!

posion oak ivy ect is an oli put him in the bath tub with hot water and get a dish soap that cuts through olis and such tell him not to scratch of rub it to this once a day and when he gets out of the bathtub tell him to pat dry DONT RUB IT! that spreads it.

See a doctor & get a cortisone shot. It's the only thing that really works for me.

I use Lanacane, Also Tape a heavy duty sock on his hands so he cant dig at it.
