It is evident that many people who have opinions on this matter answer from an emotional point of view. As an Administrator of a school, I've been able to determine the suitability for a placement of a three year old to a great degree. There are many factors that go into a decision, along with but not limited to family interviews.

Every three year old is not ready for a structured learning environment. Psychologically, you could be damaging a child by pushing him/her out of the nest too early.

If you have been in education for more than a couple of years, then yes, I would trust the judgement of someone, even if it is a three minute interview. They may not know your child, but they should know their program. It may not be a match. Try elsewhere.

Finally, they should be able to give you detailed reasons as to why it is not a match. This is what separates us from those administrators with the mental capacity of a two year old.

Can someone learn everything about your child in 3 minutes? Of course not.

That being said, some schools have a rigorous scholastic program that begins at 3. Each school is looking for a certain kind of student. Since there are long waiting lists for schools, these schools can be selective. The administrators have in mind what they want to see from a child. Well behaved, precocious, alert eager, verbal, respectful, mastery of certain skills, the list goes on and on of what they may be looking for.

If for some reason your child is not picked for that school, it is probably a blessing for your child. It would be awful for your child to be in a place that didn't offer what your child needed. The right school is out there for your child. The best school for one child is not the best for another.

There is a statistic out there that says that within 3 minutes of meeting someone if you don't like them you are generally never going to like them. This is why they say first impressions are so important. While your child maybe wonderful if the child or you don't present yourself well than it is going to leave a lasting impression on the interviewer.

I know there are more to people. Shy people can be considered snobby. I know because I am shy when you first meet me and people consider me snobby but my friends and family would say otherwise. Unfortunatly generally first impressions are what matter a lot of times. It is hard to really get to know someone in a 20 minute interview let alone a three minute.

If your child needs an "interview" for the school to determine if they want to "accept" the child into the school... this is NOT a school you want your child to go to. No three-year-old should have to be evaluated in order to attend a preschool! Your child is an individual, and there will always be someone who does not get along with them. Interviews with your child should not be a part of the admission process.

No a child can not because a child could have a cold or be tired or just be bored at the time of the interview I believe that a child should have a two week probation. then you can find out what type of child he/she is especially when they are out of their parents prescence they tend to behave a lot better LOL

ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY CAN JUDGE A THREE YEAR OLD HAS THE MENTALITY OF A 2 YEAR OLD . CHILDREN ARE WONDERFUL AND FULL OF LIFE . THEY ARE THEIR OWN INDIVIDUALS AND CHANGE DAILY WITH THEIR ACTIONS . FOR A GROWN UP TO THINK THEY CAN ANALYZE A CHILD IN 3 MINUTES NEEDS TO HAVE THEIR JOB TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM . ALL THEIR LOOKING FOR IS HOW DEEP YOUR POCKETS ARE .
