In essence this girl claimed to have raped by a 51 yr old married man with children. Since she could not prove that she was raped her sentence was death as premarital sex is punishable as such.

This is no joke.

The man who also had at least premarital sex did not get death but instead indicative of double standard 95 lashes. This is an extreme evil and I believe dysfunctional religious beliefs are the context for this evil. These types of laws and more will continue to spread throughout the world if we do not stand up to them now.

Did you know that according to the Sharia a girl can be married to a man as young as 9 yrs of age? I'm sorry but that is child rape plain and simple. These dysfunctions make me incredibly anger as they are creating tremendous and needless suffering.

water_skipper, innocent of premarital sex or not she she should not have been executed. People need freedom over their own actions. I believe only for mass murder might it be appropriate to enforce the death penalty.

thatoneguy, your heart needs to be touched in order to see the gravity of this offense. It cannot be coldly dismissed by a comparison of cultures. I also think American culture is more complex than you are trying to portray it.

crazy s, did you ever think this girl living in such a society might have disagreed with many of those laws. Without freedom how can they ever possibly change? And furthermore how can you possibly justify a totalitarian society? It is our duty as human beings to help bring light to this world and not simply adopt an overly stoic attitude. Stand up and fight for a better world. It can only work if enough of us are willing to try.

abqdan, you are right but the difference is that Islamic world is still trying to live in the dark ages. Christianity for the most part is a million times more tolerant than it once was. Islam being the squeaky wheel needs the grease of our attention.

coreyusaf, you ask what we can do. The darkness vanishes when light is shed upon it. If we recognize what is happening and denounce it it will have a power all of its own.

Not at all surprising. This is what happens in a theocracy. (Look up the Dark Ages and the Middle Ages if you don't believe me.)

Such things -- and worse -- will happen in America, too, if the religious nutters are allowed to continue in power. You heard it here first.

Regarding the Sharia, it is not necessarily Islamic. These are man made laws and they take away from the freedom of interpreting Islam/Quran the way you truly believe it should be interpreted. It's a form of oppression, which according to the Quran (and America) is worse than death...(Give me liberty or give me death.) I have my issues with the Hadith (saying of the Prophet Muhammed) as well. It's a book of history written by men, not a book of guidance revealed by God.

To the posters who don't think that we should get involved, I believe that part of the reason why we are in the mess that we are with extremist Muslims is because the west doesn't take the time to truly understand them and sincerely try to free the people that are under their rule. The US just goes into these countries for selfish reasons and claim that it is to protect the people or to fight terrorism or the US says that the country is our friend. We do a great job of butting our noses into their business when it helps us, but we do not give a damn about the people. As we can see, this ends up hurting us. If we actually showed some concern for these people and did something to help and make it known that the American people and government are trying to help, then maybe we can give them strength and they will not consider us to be hypocrites, which in turn gives the extremist Muslims ground to stand on in their fight agaisnt us.

Here is a question that I answered just yesterday. The topic is similar enough.

Question: To muslim bros, how can a girl produce 4 male witnesses in case she has been raped to avoid stoning to death ?
as per islamic doctrine If a girl can not produce 4 male witness watching her being raped she would be considered having commited adultery and should be condemned to death by stonning.

My response: I am a Muslim and I think that this is absolutely ridiculous and barbaric. You and anyone else who thinks this do not know the real Islam. The Muslims in this world are doing a great job at breaking down what is supposed to be a peaceful and compassionate religion and I think it is disgusting!! Use your head for goodness sake! No woman is supposed to be stoned to death no matter what!! In Islam, compassion overides such punishments. They were mentioned as deterrents, not to be used and abused. You shouldn't even stone a killer to death. There should be no torture or humiliation under any circumstances. How you treat others says more about who you are than it does about the other person. Use the heart and brain that God gave you and stop being brainwashed by this ridculous interpretation. Four witnesses should be produced witnessing the woman or man committing adultery. The chances of this happening is next to nothing. Therefore, any thinking human will know that this was God's way of saying that no one should assume that adultery was committed and that no one should take it upon themselves to punish the act, especially in such a heinous way. One of the beautiful things about Islam is its protection of women. Unfortunately, throughout the years, the men in Islam have made sure to manipulate the Quran and the religion to degrade women, make themselves higher and claim that they are doing it all to protect society. That's bull!! If each and every one of you who thinks like this were wiped off the face of the earth this world would be a much better place.

I realize that you may have posted this just to get a rise out of some of us, but I still wanted to state my opinion on the matter. God help you if this is for real.

If you don't like the laws don't move there. They have a lot less crime then the US. So it is safer for the average citizen. they have less freedoms too. Safety and freedoms are a balance. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

OK some of there laws are stricter and maybe unbalance. They however do not have anywhere near the broken homes the US does. I mean the divorce rate is like 80% and there are more kids with unmarried parents then married ones in the US.

It is all about what you want. They have a different value set. We value freedom and that is about all. They have strict moral guidelines. We have the morals of ancient Rome if it feels good do it. The worst offense is to tell someone else what they are doing is wrong.

I think this is a despicable act by an ignorant government. Everyone wants to compare Muslim and Christian beliefs but I do not think you will see this type of thing happening in the USA. He would have been thrown in jail and she would have received rape counseling. I am afraid child molestation is an awful thing. What is the people supposed to do about this? We have to many people yelling now about what is going on. Our hands are tied.

I dont understand why non muslims have to get involved with muslims and their problems or no problems.

These are their laws. They are only abiding by their laws.

I dont understand why the world is always trying to save the muslims when it is the other way round. You need to save yourself and your family and your country from the muslims and you are doing the total opposite.

I have suffered at the hands of the muslims that you cannot even fathom. My family and I have been so hurt by the muslims and we are not muslims. My country is ruined by the muslims. No one cares about that but expects us to be tolerant.

Even in the west they are using horrible degrading tactics to hurt as and when they can.

Now they use their money to buy anything and everything and one day we will all live by their rules and standards because they came into your home and destroyed it.

Why dont you care about yourself? Why dont you care about me?

Make it personal. It is hurting us not them. They are used to their religion. There is no defintion of rape in islam. Only adultery. It is not your business.

Try to protect your family, your culture and your religion. Tell them to leave you alone, and leave your home. They are perpetrators and are degrading the whole world.

What is the point? Islam? Do you want it in your life?
Why are you putting your pocahontas nose where it does not belong?

Intolerance exists in all religions. The Christians used to throw witches into a river - if they sank and drowned, they were innocent, and if they floated they were guilty, fished out the river, and burned at the stake.

Most religions use or have used torture and murder to promote themselves. Islam and Christianity are no exception.

Could anyone possibly believe that she would have willingly had sex with a 51 year old married man?

Fundamentalism in any religion is deadly.
