Jesus isn't an addiction and He must be easy to walk away from because so many people are doing so...drugs, on the other hand, are a very difficult addiction to overcome.

That's an interesting question. I've heard of Christians parting with their god, but I don't think those were generally the hardcore types who could really be called addicted. They were just casual users. So I'd guess that Jesus is a tougher addiction, and there aren't even any detox stations or twelve step programs for that.

As a person that has been actively addicted to both in my life, in both I thought I had found the answers. Drugs were easier to see how my life was unmanageable, Jesus made my mind unmanageable and it took years of searching inside before I found the God of my understanding. I had to work through the process of coming to terms with all that was indoctrinated in my mind by priests, nuns, parents and peers.I can now accept Jesus,Buddha,Gandhi, Lao Tzu, Mother Teresa,Dr.King as PEOPLE who were on a spiritual path and lived life that way. Not the dogma myths and you got to believe this or fire and brimstone await me for sinning. By the way I manage a recovery house for addicts.

Interesting question but I don't believe it is as simple as this or that. I think it depends on the individual. Some people can stop anything cold turkey and be ok.. some people need stages to change; some fall in between that. Some will walk away from beliefs and drugs easily, some will struggle and fight to be free of them. There is no set standard.

"Before I met the Lord I was all messed up on drugs. Now that I've met the Lord, I'm all messed up on the Lord"
Pedro and the Man bit from Cheech and Chongs' classic Big Bambu.
I agree with you, religion is an addiction, there is a part of the brain in some people that craves it.

adhering to jesus is a way of living one's life. being addicted to drugs overtakes your physical, mental, emotional, and spirtual well being. drugs is the harder addiction to break.

if you have to choose only one to "break" I think that perhaps drugs are more destructive and unhealthy, an addiction to Jesus seems to be mostly harmless and does seem to bring happiness and contentment to the "addicts" without destroying (too much) their lives and the lives of those around them, although there are severe cases where they do manage to take it to extremes.
