The bag implodes and causes a vortex to a different dimension to for in your microwave. Trust me I just got back.

If reversed, the heating pad, which absorbs the heat and radiates it to the popcorn, lays on top and does nothing for the contents of the bag. It must be on the bottom so the kernels and stuff lay on top of it to get the direct heat. Otherwise, the bag tries to expand, the top of the bag goes up, and your heat source moves away from the popcorn you're trying to pop. Result, a big mess of unpopped goo.

If you look in the bag, you will notice that there is a metal sheet on the bottom side of the bag. This gets really hot and is what essentially pops the corn. If you flip the bag over, the popcorn will not pop well and evenly because the kernels will not be resting on this metal sheet.

it pops upside down, like an antimatter thing.
actually you've turned the popcorn evil by doing this but it's much better tasting.

I agree it doesn't pop. It smells horrible. You have a huge mess afterward to clean-up!! I don't recommend doing it
