Two totally separate breeds of dogs and they don't look the same. A golden retriever has longer hair than a yellow lab, and a sharper muzzle, they also have a very fluffy tail, and their heads aren't as wide and blunt as a lab, the lab probably out weighs the retriever by about 10 - 20 lbs. Both however, are water dogs and highly trainable and in my opinion very good pets. But true representatives of their breeds are very different looking.

A lab is a lab and a golden is a golden. If you looked at some pictures you would see they definately do not look the same.
Labs are shorter, stockier dogs, lower to the ground and more barrel chested. Yellow simply refers to a colour--they can be yellow, black or chocolate coloured.
Goldens have longer legs, much more coat and their 'golden' colour can come in many many different shades.

Labradors can come in many different colors, have shorter hair, and are more hystrung. Retrivers have longer hair, are normally sandy to golden brown. Both are meant for hungting but i believe that labs are more for water foul. Also, labs have wider chests and are shorter than the retriver

Totally different breed. Yellow Lab is just like a black lab except for different color. Golden Retriever is more red and it has long wavy hair. Both are about the same size though

uh ... please. yellow Labrador and a golden retriever are two different breeds. yellow lab has short YELLOW hair while the golden has long GOLDEN hair. and they have totally different personalities. And there is no such thing as the "golden lab" it is either a golden retriever, a yellow Labrador, or a cross between a lab and a golden.

mostly, they both look alike except for subtle differences. 1, a retreiver might be a little taller than the lab. 2, lab has shorter hair than the retreiver. 3, the color for a lab is more like a cream color while retreivers are a little more .... welll... golden. 4, the lab head is slightly larger than the retreiver. Both are great family dogs though.

The only thing that's the same about the TWO breeds is the term "retriever" and their love of water. Goldens make the better family dog, in my humble opinion. I've had both.

Golden Retrievers have long, reddish copper fur, a narrower face, a long torso.

yellow labs have shorter hair and the golden retrivers have longer hair than labs, and it's kinda curly...my gma had one, but he died...and now i've got a yellow lab
