Trabajo or, in English, work. The majority come here to find work so they can support their family. Many have to trek thousands of miles under dangerous circumstances to get here. And the reason they come here is because there is a high demand for their labor. Despite popular opinion, most of the jobs they fill are jobs most Americans won't fill. People born here, and that includes all races, have more opportunities for education and better jobs than those that came here from other countries. There is no excuse for any American to not pursue an education that would give them better paying jobs. There is more financial aid and free education for minorities then there ever has been, and there are student loans at very low interest to help families send their kids to college (that goes for adults to).
Additionally, US subsidization of the agricultural industry fuels this problem as well because the artificially low price of agricultural products in the world market undercuts the prices that farmers in other countries offer. This is compounded by protectionist policies (in this country and other countries) that block the free flow of goods and services and artificially increase or decrease the value of goods and services.
Despite popular belief, most illegal immigrants don't use as much public assistance as Americans. The typical immigrant pays $80,000 more in taxes during their lifetime than they collect in government services. For immigrants with college degrees, the net fiscal return is $198,000. Futhremore, many illegal immigrants who manage to land a solid job, do so by obtaining a fake Social Security Card. The IRS still collects these monies even though the numbers are not legitimate. This means that the taxes they pay is not given back to them and they are unable to receive benefits and they are more likely not willing to use public assistance out of fear of being prosecuted or deported.

1. Work (income)
2. Have their children born in America
3. Social Security assistance
4. Housing
5. A car
6. Freedom of speech and all that other crap.
7. Electricity
8. Running water
9. Indoor plumbing
10. Availability of food
These are just a few things that are not available in their own countries to the poverty stricken.
I am not advocating illegal immigration. Just answering your question.
For people who have little, America still offers a lot, even to the poor.

you need to do a little more homework. maybe in a few years when you get to college, you can take a sociology class and discover the myriad of reasons why people leave family and culture behind to live in a plastic place like the us. FOr you to think that freedom of speech, and clean water, medical care, housing not made of cardboard and school is NOt what people come for, then you are brainwashed, and probably 12 years old. you will start asking the right questions soon, Im sure. for now, just enjoy being a kid.

first of all not all immigrants are illegal when they first arrive, but those people who do immigrate here are doing it for the same reasons they have been for over 2 hundred years, economic opportunity. And if I was born into poverty and just a few miles away was a place i could work to provide for my family, I would do it whether it was legal or not.

I think most see the US as the land of opportunity, where you can work just as hard as you did in your country but actually get paid what you're worth...and well, its hard not to want that I suppose. I remember once when doing charity work I ran across a mother and father who were so desperate as to risk everything to cross over illegally just because they knew they could get medical help for their dying 6 month old...and though I didn't agree with the hold illegal thing, I could understand their desperation and tried not to judge them...afterall, they intended to go back home as soon as their daughter was better...

...There here for all the free goodies...
.......And once they feel they've congregated enough, to get their 'leaders' in office, they'll take over..
And though they feel there power will override the U.S. Constitution, there will be a civil war....
It'll be the gringos against the Hispanics
In which the military will even kill eachother because who is going to kill their own people?
And then the Liberals will be shi*tting their pants and screaming like the little bit***es they are...
And run to Canada....
And then the gringos will win of course.. because we have an education...
And yet, there will be another Independence Day to celebrate-- in which 92 years later, the hispanic populace will be waving around their Mexican flag....
......Even though they will have begun to invade Canada.. and Eastern Russia...

is this a serious question? conditions in other countries are far worse than they are here, if you are poor. a rich mexican won't come here, because they have a good life in mexico. the illegal people are poor, sometimes with starving families, and need money. they come to work. the average job in mexico pays about $250 a month! that isn't enough to live on for one person, even there.

Due to their lack of good paying jobs, they come to work hard and support their families back home. If you made $10 (US dollars) a day, and knew that if you came here you could make $10 (US dollars) an hour, it would just make sense. Our government will not allow poor people to qualify for legal immigration.
