Describe the disadvantages of a)large and b)smaller riser of sand casting process?

If the riser is larger than necessary metal is wasted in filling up the riser and there is extra effort in removing it when the casting is cold. If the riser is too small gases may not escape properly and bubbles may be left in the metal.
