What was the error message? Using R or RW?
If R, and it does the same thing of different disks, you dvd burner may have a defect at that point in the track.
Try playing a dvd movie and going near the end of the movie, to see if it will track on playback that far.

Tom, it would have been better if you mentioned the error message that you get.
Anyways here are the things that you may try:
1) Make sure you have enough free space on your hard-disk (atleast 3GB) (tip: you can change the cache folder by going to options, default is in the instalation folder
2) Try burning at lower speeds, your HDD may ust not be able to cope up with your burner.

get dvd decrypter to write down the report to an iso then use any dvd burning utility to create a disk from the iso. this might enable you to confirm whether its dvd decrypter or a controversy with the tension.

if it used to play movie, does it crash on 3/4 or near end too? if so the motor is broken, just repair it, or replace it with a new one,
try clean the lens ( not recomended , but check it first)
