i've got a 17week old yorkshire terrier. i think she got wormed when she was 8 weeks old and then at 3months. I'm really worried about her because i know she should have been wormed every month. she seems fine so my parents don't think she has to be wormed. How bad can worms be for puppies?

Puppies need shots, booster shots and a de-wormer only at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Then you put them on Heartguard or Interceptor for heartworms and that takes care of intestinal worms as well.
If you skipped a dose, don't worry. The one she had at 3 months took care of it.
To answer your question, worms can be dangerous to all dogs, especially if they are in the heart. You do need to get her on heartworm meds..
Cheers

Puppies should be wormed every 14 days for at least 2 doses, but a total of 4 doses is preferred.
Take a stool sample to the vet and they can tell you if she needs to be wormed.
The vet should be talking about that when you take the puppy for vaccines. She should have had at least 2 vaccines already.
If not, I would be as worried about Parvo as I would parasites.

i've never heard of them being wormed every month but some people do it just in case. You have them wormed once at 8 weeks to get rid of round worms but the only other time is when you have seen worms in their feses because you can hurt your puppy if you worm him too often or if he doesn't actually have worms. Worms.. if they have them can kill them but so can the medicine if they don't have worms.

call and ask your vet

Dogs and cats should be treated for worms every three months. The eggs of worms that affect pets are widespread in the environment and pets are exposed to them every day. The may come from the faeces of other dogs and casts that have worms. Many healthy adult pets carry small number of worms but regular worm treatment keeps these numbers low to prevent disease.

Worm infestation can adversely affect health, causing poor body condition diarrhoea, coughing, skin diseases, and vomiting. Remember that there are four types of worms that affect dogs and cats, but many supermarket-type wormers will only kill one. Be careful what you buy.

Remember that most young animals are born with worms passed from their mothers. Frequent worming in the first months of life is critical to health of these puppies and kittens. Pets living in high-density areas and kennel situations are exposed to large numbers of worm eggs even if they have no direct contact with other dogs. Pregnant and lactating dogs and cats should also be wormed regularly to reduce the number of eggs passed to their young. The risk of pets causing disease in human family members is low if simple hygiene measures are taken along with regular pet worming.

Worms can ultimately kill a dog. You should have your vet check your pup's stool to see if she has anymore worms. If she does.. have her get de-wormed again. My 5 month old pup was de-wormed twice when he was younger. He recently got worm eggs in his stool due to flea bites and my vet administered a de-worming shot and now he's worm-free again.

Start at 2 weeks, and continue to 10 weeks.
Lactating bitches should be treated 2-3 weeks after whelping.

doggies and babies and an exceedingly risky mixture. the baby can pull a tail or step on a foot, the pup nips to quit the discomfort and gets blamed for biting the baby. i could shop the two aside different than decrease than very strict supervision. My greatest subject on the subject of the pup liking the baby is that the baby ought to do something to harm the pup and get bitten interior the face. canines mouths are truly purifier than human mouths.
