Your run of the mill athiest is no more educated than your run of the mill christian. What makes them think they are so much more enlightened and knowledgeable? They aren't all uuber intelligent scientists, so they can't claim a total knowledge of science can they?
Are not scientists the "high priests" of the athiest movement?

If you beleave that when you die you fade to black, its not!
If you beleave that there is life after death (flesh death) then only a fool would be an athiest.

Neither belief is better or worse than the other. They are only beliefs afterall. Both are based on the knowledge and experience they choose to accept as real. Where as an Atheist focuses on the physical plane of knowledge, the Christian focuses on the non physical plane of knowledge. Many Atheist have read the Bible from cover to cover and find little physical evidence to support the claim. Many Christians haven't read much of the Bible yet have had experiences that confirm for them that there is something beyond them.
We are all ignorant when we vainly believe our answer is the right answer, and fail to keep an open mind to all possibilities.

What's with this whole science versus religion stuff? There are some weird projections going on here. Forget about the labels. I don't believe that Allah will reward terrorists for blowing up kids on a bus; does that me an atheist? I don't believe that sacrificing virgins to the volcano god has any mystical reality; does that make me an atheist? I also don't believe in other ego gods that judge and put people in hell. I also think that belief is too much the representative of the speaker's own thoughts and desires. I've seen glimpses of the reality of 'God' but it's nothing like what the ego gods are. If people don't believe in an ego god but have an experience of the real God, are they atheists?

Maybe we just dont claim total knowledge of science or of God; because in short who dont give a damn about it.
Maybe your question should be...
" Arent the people who dont give a damn "the high priest" of the athiest movement? "
Athiest aint always about the scientist vs the god fearing folks...theres also the people in between.

I see it as an odd gamble. If there isn`t a god then the dead atheist just dies, the dead christian just dies too. None is better off than the other.
However if there IS a god, then the dead atheist probably ends up in hell, where as the dead christian ends up in heaven.
This means if you are a gambler or just follow logic, then you should believe, because you got nothing to lose, and everything to gain. You can`t be no worse off for believing.

Atheism is based on proven fact. Religion is based on what people assume about the world because an answer has not been found yet example the greeks believed zeuss threw lightning from the sky. Because they did not know where it came from.
