The first thing you should do is get an official copy of your birth certificate. Go on-line to do this or call the county records bureau where you were born. Take your birth certificate and go to the American Consulate and ask them to help you or at least find out what steps you need to take.
OK. Sorry it wasn't clear to me. If you were born in Israel it's going to be tougher. Have you tried to scan through http://www.anywho.com/ yet?

Jewish law, Torah law, says that if a child is born of a Jewish mother, the child is a Jew by birth. According to Torah law, the mother passes down being a Jew to her children. The father does not. The father passes down Tribal Lineage. The mother passes down being a Jew. So if a non-Jewish father marries a Jewish woman, their children will be Jews but will have no tribal affiliation because their father has none. But, if a Jewish father marries a non-Jewish woman, their children are not Jews according to Torah law. Therefore he cannot exactly pass down his tribal lineage, since they aren't Jewish children. So the kids have lost out on both counts there. There is no such thing as being "half Jewish". Either a person is a Jew because their mother was a Jew, or if their mother was not a Jew, then they are not a Jew. P.S. The Reform Jewish movement, which was created in the 1800s, has tried to change for themselves this Torah law. They have created their own law that says that a child is a Jew if they are raised in a household where Judaism is practiced. They did this because the intermarriage rate in Reform Judaism between Jewish males and non-Jewish females is up around 75-80% and they are basically breeding themselves right out of existence as Jews. However, changing God-given Torah law, for themselves, does not change that Torah law. It only means that they are not following true Judaism, or the Torah, and are doing as they want to, instead.

Zelda and Hunter are wrong: you said you were born in Israel, so you can't find a birth certificate on line. And you DO need to use the US embassy.

Since you are 16 you can apply for a US passport on your own. You can't do this on line; you have to go there and talk to them. They will tell you what you need. If there are papers you don't have, they can help you figure out how to find them.
Here is the address and the hours for the US Embassy in Tel Aviv:

Visit http://www.uscitizenship.info/index.htm

This is the website for the US immigration service. On there somewhere there should be a telephone number for an information service. They are usually very helpful. However, be sure you know exactly what you want to ask them when you call, so you can get the correct information.

You might be able to find your dad's social security number etc if you know what state he was born in and when. In some states (IE California) you get your SS number at birth, whilst in others you do not receive it until you are 18.

Have you thought about asking the Red Cross or the Salvation Army to help you find your dad. They should be able to help, or at least point you in the right direction.

Also, if you are studying, have you thought about applying to come to college in the US, you might even be able to get a scholarship.

GOOD LUCK

xxxx

Zelda is right about the birth certificate.

I think that If you have an American parent named on your birth certificate, you can claim citizenship.

You don't need to go to the US consulate for info.

Go to the US state department website.

update

I meant the birth certificate naming an American parent is the place to start.

I noticed that he was born in Isarael.

You can get an application for a US passport, and instructions for filling it out online.

Try to get a job through a company that has connections to the US. Then you may ask to get transferred to America. If you have a worker's visa, you may be able to get a citizenship in America. If life is very difficult there, try to live in a Europian country that is accepting immigrants. Maybe Germany. Talk to US Embassy in Isreal. It will take a long time to maybe get a US passport. Go to US Embassy and try finding your dad's last name in America. If they can contact him, then he may be able to get you to America

If you got a passport, what would you do? Do you have a family here? I think I would stay with my family there where I knew someone. You have to apply for a passport and it takes a long time.
