Police officers, just as any kind of profession, come from many different backgrounds. If you have a problem with one's individual conduct, you have a right to request their records as well as file a complaint against them if you so choose. You have the right not to be bullied, if you choose to exercise it.

When I was a little girl of about three, I managed to get out of a locked gate (confirmed locked) in a fenced yard and go wandering all about the street. I was found by a woman who lived a few blocks away, who called the police and were able to return me home in very short order. While it is true that there are abuses of power, as there are in EVERY system, police are here to perform a good and necessary function, whether or not it wins them the "best friend" award every time they do it. It's a difficult and dangerous job, no matter where they are. So unless you think you're actually being harrassed or mistreated, please give them a break.

The reason I became a police officer was because I was physically abused as a kid. I was determined that no one that small could defend themselves so it was my job to defend them.

There were a lot of people that would have done something if they thought they could have but no one really stepped up until my mom finally figured this all out...

But time and again I have heard people say they would have done something about that kid getting beat but their dad was bigger than they were...

There are good and bad cops just as there are good and bad grocers, lawyers, plumbers, painters and carpenters...there are good and bad people in all walks of life.

Cops are just looked at a little more closely than others.

There was a famous person, who I can t remember his name, that said, "Police officers are our fists, our clubs and our shields. They protect us from the things that we are not able or not willing to face..." or words to that effect.

Give a little credit where credit is due...cops do a difficult job and they need a little respect when they are doing it...if you dont respect the man at least respect the uniform. Many things affect the way an officer reacts toward you. The thing to remember is that attitude will get you a ticket or trip to jail faster than anything else...

Well I agree with fascist bully-boys that may have been molested or bullied as a child. I respect city cops[although some are very racist] but not town cops. No matter what town I may have lived in they were always mean and played favoritism among the people. It was very wrong. Town cops usually have this obnoxious attitude and I hate it. Well ya know what, Whateva ! I can do want !!

Some of them might be natural bullies; some of them might have once had good intentions but were later corrupted by power. Most of them are probably just normal guys and gals doing their best at "a difficult job that nobody else wants to do." Most of them probably genuinely want to help their communities by upholding the laws and getting the bad guys off the streets. It's funny how so many people talk crap about cops until they themselves are the ones needing help. Kind of like how everyone makes fun of rednecks until they need their car fixed...

I'd say that cops fit into all three categories, and some are just normal people doing a day job. I don't think one can peg most of them into a single category, you know?

I think they are bully-boys.Yes,we certanly need cops.If we didnt have them,it would be chaos. But give the working class man a break. There are some real crimes going on all around us.Cops are cowards. It's easier to ride around and issue tickets than to go in a place like the projects and fight real crime.

their job is to find, arrest, and help convict people
if they get the wrong person they dont really care because it looks like they are doing their job.
if they get someone to admit to something they didnt do...it still counts.
and they can lie to you all day to get you to talk and then pick out your words and use them against you!

everyone should watch Busted by www.flexyourrights.org
it tells you how to avoid waiving your rights when dealing with the police

if you copperate they will not "help you out", they will bust you if they can. they can not put you in jail because they dont like you, what kind of world would that be? they put yopu in jail based on "evidence" and they will do anything to get it

While some are on a power trip, I would say most are just wanting to enforce the law, with no agenda...I mean, we do need someone to enforce our laws, or would you prefer chaos?
