There are two types of memory terms...there is short term memory when for example, someone gives you a phone number and you dont have where to write so you try to memorize it, you repeat it a few times so it gets stuck in your mind, but after a week you dont remember it anymore, its because you only repeated it a few times.

But if you want to stay longer in your brain, repeat it many times, use some other skills to remember it, such as using other items, pictures, making a puzzle or game etc...

Good luck :)

Make sure you eat properly and are getting a variety of healthy foods. Blueberries are great for the brain. It is true about feeding the brain for energy and learning.

Read and read and read. People who read have a much better chance at retaining things they have learned. If you don't use it you'll lose it certainly applies to the brain as well as everything else.

do mind enhancing games. Crosswords, search-words, puzzles etc. You can google them to look up different kinds

read it, say it, write it. Until you know it. Study. Seriously, it works. Then keep it somewhere to revisit it if you need to. Try to be actually interested in what you want to retain.

If you feel you are seriously still have problems, make an appointment with your doctor. Maybe something else is going on. Take care and be healthy!

Ever notice how your social security number and phone number is broken up into three and four number chunks? It is so that we can remember them better. Remember the bits. If it is a phone number in your town that has the same first 3 digits as your phone number, just remember the last 4 digits.

Mnemonic devices are another way to remember things. Associate what you need to remember with a rhyme or picture. For example, "King Phillip Came Over For Good Soup" is a mnemonic device to remember the classification system in Biology (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species).

With a math formula, the best way to remember it is to use it over and over again. That is why your math teacher assigns you homework. With math, practice makes perfect.

What was the question? I'm sorry, I forgot . . . :)

Just kidding. Actually, it happens to me all the time, too. My real challenge is remembering names. However, one thing that I have found to be helpful is to associate something else that is either meaningful or funny with the name (or phone number, formula, etc.) Given the example of a phone number, I try to break it down into numbers that mean something to me. My new cell number contains the numbers 4835. This is easier for me to remember because my sister is 48 and my mom was born in 1935. So I think of my 48-year-old sister at my mom's birthday party, and there we are. This is kind of a silly example, but it works.

I wish you the best. May God bless and keep you.

I'm no doctor but there are many methods such as:

Association - kind of like the "My Dear Aunt Sally", from elementary school for remebering the Arithmetic order "Multiply Divide Add Subract"

Clustering - You take something that seems too complex and break it into groups. It's unlikely you could remember a ten digit number if it's just babbled off, 3,1,2,6,7,4,5,5,6,3 but if you think of it as 31,267 & 45,563 it's not as bad.

Repetition - as it suggests, it's the time tested method of repeating something over and over again until it's ingrained to your memory.

These can be combined. For example, if the chemical formulation for play-doe is C4A1615. you could cluster and use association by saying C4 is like the explosive, A1 is my favorite steak sauce, 615 is the area code of my aunts house

Trying to do this for a 100 question test is tough, so make it into something you could possibly remember like "Play-doe is explosive, but I'd eat it with steak if I was at my aunt's". Repeat this a few times and chances are you'll remember the answer without needing the saying by the time the test comes.

Sounds nuts, but it's worked for me.

I try to remember stuff in relation to other things I know. A phone number may include, someone age, a house number, a zipcode.

It also helps to keep repeating what you are trying to remember, repeat out loud if you are an auditory learner.

If you are trying to remember something long, try to put it to music. Remember Potsie weber singing about the heart on Happy Days?

I have a memory meditation I use. I got the tape through the people that come through with those stop smoking Seminars.

The tape is called Memory Enhancement it works for me really well. You have to listen to it from now on, because is seems to wear off after awhile.

strong feeling, and specific place,,,,
make it simple..... or lovely, cute, or any feeling will do, remember what is it for, what to do about it, where you get it,, you like it? ect ect, so if you forget, you can start to chain it again from another memory.....
sing it..... it will do
oh you can always sort it in alphabetical order in your mind,,, eg: start with a letter "a" does it start with "a"?

if you can traumatize your self, then even an amnesia may fail to make it forget....
