Mostly because of the bad behaviors from members of organized religions. Fundamentalists of all stripes seem to have completely lost track of right versus wrong (witness the opposition to funding stem cell research, the behavior of the anti-abortionists, the creationists, and the anti-gay attacks). When religion becomes associated with that kind of immorality and juvenile behavior it can only expect to meet opposition.

Most religions are way behind the times.

Views on birth control, divorce, priests being married, abortion, stem cell research, right to die, people living together, tattoos, homosexuality, suicide, how they feel about opposing beliefs.....

A religion's stance on any of these or any others, may keep even the most well-balanced, thinking person out of a church.

I was just at a memorial service last weekend. As I was sitting there thinking "Hey, this place isn't half bad", the pastor starts on about..."when a Christian dies..." as if a Buddhist or Jew had passed away, the loss would be substantially less. My stomach turned. Hypocrite.

Because most religions are founded to meet the needs of the people and not the message of the bible. If you've noticed, there are tons of denominations, although they're all protestant. And when people create denominations to meet their needs, they judge others in other denominations, condemning their beliefs. Too much conflict is being caused by "religion". The "I'm right, you're wrong" mentality isn't holding ground as well. People are becoming more "spiritual" than "religious". Do we really need to belong to a religion to worship God?

spirituality is fine, religion is a way to seperate people. If your not a member of a certain religion, then you're a "bad" person. Do you realize that most of the wars (were millions have been killed) are based on religion. Religion is more of a hinderence than a help to peace in this world. People should be spiritual, have a good personal relationship with the god of their choice, and treat all human beings with the respect and love that they deserve.

Hi friend,

It is because they don't have basic knowledge of their culture and relgion. At least if they get knowedge from their parents they won't against any religion. Nowadays especially in western countries parents do not have time they time for clubs, drinks and boyfriends or girlfriends. I am an ordinary person from India and I am christian by belief but good background of Indian especially hindu culture that is why we are more pious and broadminded.

Because religion tends to encourage people to stop thinking beyond a certain point, and to live based on dogma past that point, and this is dangerous.

If the people around you refuse to think rationally about certain issues, the only check on them from doing crazy things when those issues come up is the whim of the person who made their dogma. And the whims of people who choose to make and propogate dogma, instead of encouraging rational discussion? Well, those whims tend to be nefarious.

What good comes from it? How many countries are at war right now because of religion? And how many wars have been started because of religion? So why is it needed?

It is the falling away.
Listening to deceitful spirits.
It is forecast and is now happening.
People will no longer listen to sound doctrine but turn away to other things, new religions ( the force ) ( the crystals )
( the spirit of the HA HA ) ( worship anything but Jesus )
Not receiving the love of the truth.
Therefore they are gathered into bundles to be burned.

Because religion is a myth, a man-made thing created so people would have something to hold on to. I have faith, and I believe in God, but I do not follow a religion.

Because religion has gotten very far away from it's purpose...to teach about life in the here and now...relies too much on archaic/outdated material to continue teaching, but the relevance of that teaching in the here and now is debatable...the world has changed...humanity has changed...religion is stagnant. PEACE!
