There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......
(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.

Well this is a funny question because I am the mother of 2 teenage daughter who both tell their boyfriends "i love you".. I sit back and laugh because when they Love someone they will really know... Right now as such a young age I don't think they really know what love is!! I think it is just something they throw out there cuz they are in a "relationship"... but as you get older and wiser... you will know what love is!! Love isn't a game.. Love is a true feeling that you feel for someone.. someone special.. I am not sure I have fell in love yet!! But when I do I am sure it will be an experience... My stomache in butterflies everytime I see him or I may stumble over everything I say or I can't imagine life without this person!! I hope to experience it, but no rush.. I sit back and watch my teenagers and enjoy right now.. It don't take long to figure out if you love someone.. i think it would be an immediate attraction, but it will only take one person the right person to know and tell if your in love...
sorry went rambling on and on...

Love is as real as a rock. It's far more than mere protection ... it's a need ... it is comfort ... it is giving ... it is taking ... it can be an overwhelming thing.
It you feel a hole in your soul when not with the person ... it could be love.
If you would give your life for the person ... it could be love.
If your heart sings when you're with the person ... it could be love.
Love is very difficult, if not impossible, to define. It is also one of the most complicated emotions known to mankind.
Do not, however, equate it with passion. That's different, but it feels quite a bit the same early on. Passion fades from relationships, but real love doesn't ... or at least takes a very long time to do so.
Love is totally real. I hope you find it!

The problem with most teen relationships that seem to progress so fast, is that they only see each other when (for the most part) they have showered, put on make-up, ect. Also, they never spend the night with each other, or are around each other for extended periods of time.
If you can spend the night with the person (I don't even mean sex), wake up and go through your daily routine and not be annoyed or self-conscious about being around them, then I think you're getting there. If your partner is a part of your everyday life, and you think about them before most other things, love is going to come soon.

most teen love is shallow and they will soon claim to love another...based more on looks and enjoying same activities but not real love...real love is having a strong emotional attachment to someone and based more on feelings and who they are as a person not looks or similar interests...it feels like a rush of emotion..thinking about them..caring about them..feeling pain when they do..wanting to make them happy..it depends how much you open up and really share yourself with someone..the heart doesn't know a time...it's whenever you feel it you will know.....but infatuation without the real love can happen almost instantly...most teenage relationships are based on that...actually allot of adult relationships are too

Love grows with trust and time. I felt love for my partner after a few weeks but I wasn't sure until about 2 months had passed. We both fell in love quickly and hard!
When it happens you know.
