If you have never tried wine before you better take it slow. Start with white wine, something fairly sweet. Until you get used to the taste it will be difficult to even distinguish "good" from bad. Try a white German white like a Reisling and go from there. As your palate matures you can try drier wines and then later reds. Good luck!

Wine, like all booze, is an acquired taste. You won't know what is good until you know what is bad. I'd go easy on your wallet and try out a house white or red at a bar. Or buy something less than $10 at the store and see.

You can note the color (red or white), where it is from (France? California? Chile? Australia?), and what type of grape it might be (Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay, etc.). Then keep experimenting.

One thing - most people who first drink wines tend to like whites. Not all people, mind you, but whites can be less complex and therefore easier to simply drink casually.

Try a chardonnay from CakeBread Cellars or Frey Vineyards. Then move on to Beringer Gamay Beaujolais or Foppiano Petite Syrah.
USA beat the French wines again.

Depends if you like sweet or heavy or what. The best thing to do for an introduction to wine is tovisit a wine tasting venue. There you'll get a chance to try many differant tastes.good luck
