Are people really beautifull or is it the observer that make them beautiful.

In contrast, are people ugly or is it the observer that make them look ugly.

This question may not be in the right place but i just want people to stop answering the previous racist question "Why are black people so ugly".

this is a quote i really like that might help answer your question:

"Beauty is in the soul.
you can't see it,
but you know it, when you feel it."

Yes-- It is true although its an old fashioned saying-- people are all the time questioning it.. It's a very sad fact that people are racist Im not one of them.. My only explanation is that beauty is only skin deep so I think that would be more acceptable to say than Beauty being in the eye of the beholder///

I think it means the same

beauty is a very complex subject. but as shakespere had said, the famous quote, rose is a rose, even if you callit by any name. and the thing of beauty, is ajoy for ever.
personal perception of beauty, when two people are inlove, is different, than the basics. why should we call some particular race ugly ? no one has that right to generalise, and comment ? then why was halle berry selected among the top 50 most beautiful women of the world? beauty is only skin-deep, but sadly, it always affects our judgement, our perception, and neglect, or undermine the talents, intrinsic good qualities a person may have.
standards of beauty may be different in china, japan, india, africa, america etc., but with the world becoming a global village and all that, with the beauty pageants organised, and a beauty from any corner of the world crowned miss universe, or miss world, the word ugly isarbitrary.
according to me, will smith , or denzel washigton may be equally suave, or macho, compared to may be brad pitt or tom cruise, because i am perceiving his role, his ability to act, and entertain.
true, brad pitt may be more pleasant to look at, or catherine zeta jones, compared to may be whitney houston ! but that doesn't make them ugly. i , or any cine-critic may admire them equally.
color of the skin should not interfere with our judgement, never !

Partially yes, partially no.

There is a great deal of leeway in perception of beauty, but insofar as the issue is physical beauty of people, there are some general guidelines that relate to health. Clear skin, symmetry (a sign that the genetic blueprint was robust enough to weather the trials of development without being thrown off course much), appearance of youth, not looking sickly.

These sorts of things are genuine constraints on beauty, and within these constraints, people have personal or cultural preferences, and these are subjective.

Most of the time the answer to your question is yes, but not necessarily, some people are just blind or they just have no sense of beauty in them to even begin with for them to judge something as beautiful or ugly.

I think so, because to me, beauty is more than a physical feature. It has to do with all the stuff on the inside too. Same for ugliness, it is the person on the inside that makes you ugly.

Personalities can make a person ugly. I use to judge people by looks and thats very shallow...look past the exterior...I have lost my beauty, but I try to do something good for someone everyday...where would be be today without mandela...dali lama...omg martin luther king jr??? they aren't the hottest looking dudes, but it is their inner beauty thats has touched everyone,

yes it is in the eye of the beholder cause an observer can think people are ugly when they think themselves beautiful.

Black people are the same as all others. They are children of GOD. They are no less beautiful or ugly than any other person who is a child of GOD. What makes anyone ugly is what comes from within and permeats society by their dogma, fanatic behavior and insidious beliefs.....GOD bless.......

This is an old expression. If you see someone attractive with someone you consider unattractive you will often hear it being said "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" Its true to that extent.
