Hindus have millions of sacred texts and they have evolved with time. The Vedas are the oldest then the Upanishads and it just keeps on going. There are sacred texts being written even today.
Hinduism is about experiencing God not about relying on a text. Svadhyana, the study of the self is sometimes accompanied with the study of sacred texts, but looking inward at the Self is more important than merely reading the texts. All the texts repeat the same universal messages in some format or another and as a Hindu I not only look at the sacred texts of my tradition, but the sacred texts of other traditions as well. Hinduism isn't a religion based upon "believe this or else", instead we are to challenge what we are told, to search for answers on our own, to come to experience God ourselves.
Thus if I found out that the sacred texts had been tampered with over time then I'd still be a Hindu because that doesn't really greatly effect my religion.

First of all, I would be devastated to know that the one shred of proof of my beliefs was not real. The Bible serves as a source from which many originally grasp their understanding of faith in God. For me, obviously the Bible is an invaluable source -- but in my faith, I do not interpret the Bible literally, and such a blow, from the truth, would not inflict nearly as much harm to my spirituality as it would someone of a Christian denomination that *does* take the Bible literally.
But you asked how I would feel about such an occurence, so I will focus on that. You established that God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit existed -- this basic point would surely keep my faith alive, because my understanding of the world (God, why life is as it is, why I have certain morals, etc.), *originated* from the Bible. But now? That understanding has been supported by years of deep thought upon each matter presented to me -- therefore, the occurence that you speak of would not ruin my faith.
What I have gathered from my faith, my religion, is a sense of understanding. Taking away the Bible will not change that. I *know* -- without looking at the Bible! -- that killing someone is wrong, that God must love us all unconditionally, that baptism is a ritual that, whether it existed in the far past or not, should be continued for what it represents. It just, makes, sense.
So there's your answer! My faith just makes sense to me -- the Bible helped to be a source of my understanding, but I still have so many years of thinking about my religion and faith that without the Bible, my perception of the world will not change because of it. My personality, my morals, my beliefs, my convictions, my values... none of these will change were the Bible to be proven wrong.
But then again, I must add that such an occurence is highly unlikely -- what with all the scholars and scientists who have studied into its past, the precarbonation (or whatever that dating process is called), that's a HECK of a lot of effort to cover up a scheme so incredibly old.

Well the truth is that the Holy Spirt reveals the word as the truth. And It is what leads me toward God the Spirit confirms what is true. And where there is two there is truth. Had we not had the word the Holy spirit would have guided someone to write the truth of God and the spirit would confim it as true. But praise be to God the word has been here with us for thousands of years and the Holy spirit confirms it is the truth to all who seek after the truths of God. Sorry Muslims no offense but the truth was available to Abraham and Jesus came to fufill this same truth the new scriptures that you have are not from God as they claim the prophets yet deny there teachings these were the same scriptures Christ came to fufill as God in the flesh.chrsit did not reject the teachings of God's people he fufilled tham Muhammed called it all corupt and worshiped a different God he Calls on Names of prophets and the name of Jesus to give his religion credibility while denying the words and teachings of Abraham And Moses and Jesus.

Aloha!
Although it is '06. I have recieved my first computer this week.
I am enjoying very much the exchange of ideas and finding that while topics like this make bad social conversation it is very nice to see it here.
I love your question! The bulk of of it. I just now read the last line however and it seems that your question while well written and correct, provocative falls apart at the end in self rightous hypocracy.
I belive in a higher power. Listen I'm not trying to attack you or your beliefs personally. The point of your question is to question the validity of organized religion. Not spirituality. I agree with all of your question until the end. The point it seems to me is to question the validity of man possibly knowing specifically whats up! I can accept God. You contradict yourself when you specify that all the other things you discount through common sense and acknowlege the fact that nowone in faith openly acknowleges these discrepencys and then come out with your own specific agenda.
I'll leave you with this
If God created so many different types of people in so many different places and times why would he allow only one way to shine and exist as our human selves? Get off your high horse. To belive that you have it all figured out is the ultimate example of arrogance.
Ending the message with love. God bless. Forgiveness and understanding is the peace we all look for.

It was called the council of Nicea and it happened. So far as purity goes...all religions rely on humanities interpertations of what God (if there is one) had to say through flawed individuals (prophets). There are concepts to live by...God is a creation of man...the son is another false "Messiah"...the holy spirit is the only Western Theological concept based in reality...the holy spirit is the collective conciousness of humanity. PEACE!

Well thats where faith plays in. I have faith that my belief is what my God and what Jesus set it to be. Also, old documents are found all the time that proove that then have not been tampered with. (Documents that date back until the time of the diciples, and they wouldnt let the documents they wrote be edited.)

I don't think "all the religions of the world" know that there is "a God the father...the son...and the holy spirit".
As a Christian, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I already worship the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

all knowledge is ultimately self knowledge. most people look out side of themselves for so called truth when the only truth is they exist, everything else is illusion. most people don't even understand why they believe their chosen faith they just go with the flow ,self realization ,that's the meaning of human existence it cant be modified or misinterpreted if you trust in the know ledge that you are eternally free and you are here working out karma, all things that happen to you originally comes from you but they cant take this intrinsic truth that they themselve are to blame as soon as self knowledge is obtained they take responsibility's for their actions and their life becomes fluid and complete

I would still know I am saved and on stating that, I can and would only be judged on what I knew and not on what I was told as a lie. My faith and works as well as my relationship with God would get me to Heaven - being at the right hand side of God.

I am a Muslim and if you are referring to Christianity, then I aggree with you but if are referring to Islam then I don't .Because
The Holy Quran states at many places that -IF YOU DOUBT THAT THIS BOOK IS NOT FROM GOD THEN PRODUCE A SURA(FEW VERSES)LIKE IT HAS.
To this day this challenge has not been overcamed.
So I beleive that Its the word of God.So whatever it contains,Is true.
