He really needs that vet check..prehaps you could call and get it set for today. it could be worms, or heart trouble, or cocci, or just anything! I hope you can set the appointment up a day, as thses little guys are quite fragile, and can go downhill too quickly.

How sad that the older dog has to live out the twilight years with a puppy harrassing him. One of our older dogs was around a puppy for a 2 week period (not ours) and it made our dog permanetly DISLIKE puppies. Before that our dog LOVED calmer puppies. I suggest keeping the puppy away from the older dog while you are away at least so that it does not continously harrass the older dog while people are at work. Older dog should have more space in the house when seperated imo if it comes down to leaving one dog in a room or in a smaller section of the house, that would be the puppy. You may try:: When you walk in a room, say hi and pet the older dog first. It may show the puppy that the older dog is going to be first for attention. When the puppy harrasses the older dog, do not pick up the puppy and cuddle it. (not that you're doing that.) You have to be careful that older puppy does not associate harrassing older dog with getting your attention. If it were me I would find a nice home for the puppy so that the older dog can live in peace. Maybe it is not likelt that the older dog will increase in energy (at least not enough to keep up with a pup) as it ages and the puppy could be very routy for a year or two.. Begin working with the puppy on obedience. Find a good trainer. Maybe that will help, maybe not, but it is not something I would be willing to make my older dog uncomfortable. He must be grieving for his former friend and now there is something that scares him, harrasses him, and occupies people's attention.

Don't chip the pup! Why would you want to do that? Is the animal going to run away? The vet only wants your money. It's all about the money! They are only good for a few things. There hasn't been a case of rabies around in 40 years! Try Natures Recipe food, it is chemical & preservative free. It doesn't contain diseased animal parts, or any artificial ingredients. It could be the reaction to any vaccines that you may have given your pup. I believe in supplementation. PLEASE try to find a HOLISTIC vet in your area! Your furry friend deserves better! ALSO, PLEASE READ ABOUT the harmful effects of this ingredient in our shampoos, the next time you take the pooch in for a grooming, you may think about buying shampoo yourself so you will know what is in it instead of letting the groomer use any old thing! I hope this helps!

I do not want to scare you, but if it is a small yorkie take it in tomarrow and check for degenitive heart disease. I bought one 12+ years ago and it did he same but at 6 wks old and it had a heart attack. the ladie told me afterwards that the smaller one can get it. I was so mad and the vet had to verify that she died from it just to get money back. they should know if weaker before selling.
I hope it is not that just the heat, I have 2 assies now [they just mated today} but ask the vet right away if there is a way to check???

My guess is he might have done something to his neck/spine. If he was limping, I would say it was a leg...

It would make sense as to why he feels good when he gets up and then gets worse as the day goes on.

You might try a little massage. It would give you a chance to see if there are any 'tender' spots on him.

It could also be an ear infection. But I'm going with the spine. Think about how you feel when your neck is out of alignment...dogs can get that too.

Mention this to the vet BEFORE he gets chipped. They may want to check him out before the chipping. Sounds like there is something going on. I have a very small pomernian that don't walk for long - she just gets tuckered out easily and loves to be carried.

Has he any unexplained swellings around his paws, legs (or anywhere else if he is small ) ? if he has and he trots about in any grass ask the vet to do a blood toxin test on him. Tick bites can cause serious problems to humans as well as dogs. Lethargy can be one of the first signs of tick borne illness.

I think you answered it yourself. Its most probably due to the heat.

Puppies at that age only have a very limited amount of energy they can expend. With this heat, dogs reserve a lot of energy for panting (dogs dont sweat).

When your at the vets tomorrow, I am sure he'she will give your pup a quick checkover, and probably put your mind at ease! Good Luck.

Watch him close and don't let him get too hot, it can cause brain damage in dogs. Have the vet look him over and be sure it's not something serious. Probably nothing to be too conserned over, but better safe than sorry. good luck

I'm amazed you haven't taken him to the vets about this. You say he yelps as if in pain, then hangs his head?
Tell the vet tomorrow and get him checked out.
