I'm deaf, I want to know if the deaf people had joined the army, navy, air force, or coast guard, or mairne before. Do you know if the deaf people are illegal to join the military.

Deaf people are not eligible for military service due to the difficulties in communicating.
Most commands given in the military are verbal, and you cannot always see the person that is giving the commands, sometimes they are given via radio, or shouted through the woods/forest/desert.

Its not "illegal" to join the military if you are deaf - you just won't get accepted.

First of all, you wouldn't want to deal with the military without the sense of hearing. Secondly, it would be very dangerous for you.

Secondly, I am a deaf interpreter and can attest to the fact that deaf and hearing people live in two different worlds as one. Often what I say to a hearing person is going to be the same thing I say to a deaf person, but may not be understood the same way. While you may want to fight for your country, it really is a huge pain!

I don't think that deaf people should be in the military. Having the 5 senses is vital in the army, navy, etc.

Unfortunately deaf people are not allowed to join the army, they are very particular on who they allow to join the service, any weakness and they usually will not allow you in, My dad wanted to be in the service but they would not allow him because he had flat feet. Something as silly as that and they wont let you in, even if you really want to.

Basically, the entire military must be "World wide qualified" -- at least when they sign up, in order to serve in combat roles. people with disabilities could slow down a combat operation.

There are many ways people can serve the military in civilian roles--look into those if you are interested in serving.

The military is not going to let anyone in with any medical conditions which is why they go thru medical/physical exams.

Who wants a deaf person in a combat zone and cannot hear a mortar or bomb coming? I know I would not.

I can see how they would join the military. When you go to bootcamp and/or after training, how are you going to hear commands and be able to respond to them. You won't be able to.

go on the internet and find the number for the branch you want to join and call them. They wouldn't let me join cuz of my ADHD.
