Sometimes we as mothers will have to dress our sons for female roles for various school occations such as dramas, plays, fancy dress competitions and dress as the opposite sex days. Specially this happens in boys only schools in india. Indian drama and dance traditions also do have a rich traditions of boys playing female roles. Although i look at these thing in a positive manner, i have seen many others looking upon it.

What do you think are the positive and negative consequences of these efforts? Wouldent it give some sort of exposure for boys to the womanhood. On the otherway round isnt it discriminative when we only accept girls wearing boys clothes or playing male roles?

Please give both positive and negative reasons......because i beleave any issue has its both sides.

The answer to this question depends upon the culture and time you live in. At the turn of the 20th century, in Europe and America, it was common to dress small boys in girls clothes. Today, it is getting frowned upon. The negatives are: 1. People are worried that it will be a tramatic experience for the boy. This is because his classmates will tease him mercilessly, and call him names. Or, 2. They worry that it will change him into a homosexual or a crossdresser. I believe this worry is largely unfounded.

I am an old man, but when I was young and went to an all boys school it was common to dress as girls for plays, skits, spirit week and other events. I know of no adverse affect on anyone.

I understand that India does not have the same fears of dressing boys as girls as America currently does. In America if you dress a young man as a girl he maybe more harmful than in India because of the culture here. However, if your son wants to participate in these school events then do not discourage him.

If you need some positive reasons, then consider: (1) the experience itself can teach him greater respect for women, (2) you can be afraid of many things in this world, but a young man should not be afraid of women's clothes, (3) it is an art form, and women's clothes offer greater colors, textures and beauty than can be found in men's clothes. (4) its good for a young man to know a few things about women's clothes - he will marry a women someday, (5) when he gets a bit older he will look ridiculous in a dress, his only opportunity is when he is young, (6) its just good clean fun, if he has fun, his schoolmates have fun and no one is hurt. So enjoy.

This is kinda hard to answer because to me it doesn't sound like a mother asking this question. It sounds more like a boy who wants to dress and act like a girl. Who is trying to seek acceptance.

If it's what your sayings it's for skits, plays etc and only the short term. Then I can't see it being positive or negative. Because there is no internal mechanism that triggers the wanting to dress in females clothing.

On the other hand if the young man wants to and eagerly awaits to dress like a girl and the dressing simulate him. Then he would fall in the realm of a crossdresser, transvestite, or transsexual.
etc.

Which can be very negative or positive.
Positive aspects; Experience your feminine side, feel how it's to be treated as a woman. Learning proper respect for women and aspects of a womanhood.
Negative can be shameful guilt feeling harassment and possibly even injury.

Nushi the first thing that you must realize is that here is nothing wrong with it and get over your shame it's only clothing and it doesn't change who you are, it only completes you as the person you are.

So once you have that solved. Go for it gurl and enjoy the rest of your life.

Eee Gads.....This is America.....not India!!! I cannot believe that some teenage boy would let his mommy dress him as a female!!! Give it up or move to India. This is a set up to be ridiculed and sounds abusive to me.......you need counseling as well if you think that this is okay!!!!!

let him do as he wants otherwise he will just sneak around and dress as he wants anyways. This way u can control how much he dresses and where.

I can think of no positives but the negatives are pretty numerous: anger, resentment, violence the list goes on and on.

Since I'm a teenage boy, I can only think of negatives. You're going to really hurt his "inner man". But on a lighter note, it's an easy way to make him gay (in all respects to gay people).
