Braces may sound weird and scary, but DON'T WORRY, because they'll only be on your teeth for only a year or two. And when you're finished wearing them, you'll have a movie-star smile!

My daughter has braces; on for about a year now.....She gets different colored rubber bands that go along with braces. This is the list my daughter's orthodontist gave her.....
Foods to Avoid:
1. Hard chewing gum, gummy bears, etc.
2. Biting into hard apples, carrots or other raw vegetables. (cut them up!)
3. Hard Pizza Crust
4. Opening nut shells with your teeth or biting into pens, pencils, erasers, finger nails or ice cubes.
5. Other foods on the list are: Bagels, hard rolls, hard pretzels, hard cookies and chips.
6. In general, any hard, sticky, or chewy foods or candies.

The first few months with braces is difficult, because the teeth are sensitive to pressure, heat and cold and you can even feel pain in your gums if you're trying to chew stuff.
I ate a lot of soft cheese, soup and crackers those first few months. Ate applesauce instead of apples, etc.
Also, foods that require a tearing bite, like corn on the cob, were just impossible. I cut those into pieces first.

No sticky stuff like gummy candy; no nuts; hard candies; popcorn. Make sure not to overdo on sodas or anything really sugary. That can actually break down the metal and also contribute to cavities since brushing can't be as thorough with the braces.
Don't be scared...you'll adapt, and the results will be so worth it in the end!!

Good luck with the braces, my little brother just got his off. You aren't supposed to eat really sticky stuff so no sugar daddys or gum. The stickiness can pull one of the bracket off of your teeth. You're not suppoed to eat hard chips like tostitos and doritos, If you eat them carefully it should be ok. They can also break a wire or knock a bracket off. I was told not to eat popcorn, the kernals can break wires and brackets. The orthodontist should tell you everthing else that you aren't supposed to eat. Just ask him/her and you should be ok. Remember to use your pain killer of choice after you get them on, they'll hurt at first.

Hi....I have braces...its not that bad...once you get use to it. You can't have popcorn, corn on the cob, bubble gum.... nuts and other hard foods. You also cannot bite into many hard foods such as apples.
Good luck....it will all be worth it in the end. :)
P.S don't be scared...its not a scary process
