Plant some cacao trees in the shade of larger trees.

Wait 5-8 years.

Harvest ripe pods with a pod-whopper.

Split pods open with a machete, scoop out beans.

Let beans stand about a week on a tray covered with burlap until they've turned medium brown.

Dry them in the sun, stirring occasionally (about 3 days)

Roast beans at 250 degrees for 2 hours.

Remove shells from beans, leaving the nibs.

Crush the nibs in a mill. The heat generated will liquefy the pulp, creating chocolate mass.

This is the raw material for all chocolate products.

This usually involves buying brick dark chocolate, heating it in a double boiler with sugar and milk, then cooling it in molds to make little chocolate forms. You could also dip strawberries or cherries in the warm liquid chocolate.

Have fun, and don't eat it all before giving some to Mom!
