I got on birth control at the age of 14 because of irregular periods. 5 years later, I am still on birth control. Should i get off of them? Will it make me less likely to get pregnant?

Ok, someone thought I meant is it less likely to get pregnant on the pill. I mean when i get off the pill, is there a chance I will not be able to conceive since I have been on them for so long?

I thought the same way and went off the birth control pill a month before my wedding thinking that it would take some time to get out of my system (on the pill for 7 years)
I got pregnant as soon as I went off, there is a study out there that suggests that when a woman goes off the pill they are most fertile, just a thought.
You should probably stay on the pill until your ready for baby.

No birth control=pregnancy. Not only are the chances good that irregularity may continue if you do stop, but your body has become adapted to this routine, so you can pretty much guarentee other medical issues will arrive.
You stated "them", so we'll assume it is the pill. Ask your gyno. if perhaps the Depo-shot (2 times a year?) or the IUD (one insert of 5 small devices into the arm - no repeat visit for 5 years?) would be appropriate. With the shot, it is about a year wait until you can hope to concieve and longer with the IUD - but since you are about 19, you'll have a few years to decide.

How long you have been on the pill shouldn't affect your fertility later on. The pill is not as strong as they used to be where they made you come off of them. I went on the pill at 18, got married at 22, decided to have a baby at 25 and got pregnant the first month. It affects each woman differently, but typically they shouldn't affect your fertility. The fact that you had irregular periods to begin with may cause some issues once you do decide to have children but that is another story!

You should always talk to your doctor with any concerns about b.c. I was on "the pill" for 10 years and I have a healthy 8 1/2 month old boy. I had no problems getting pregnant either.

I believe that long term use of the pill can make conception more difficult but at 5 years I don't think you fall into that category!
The best person to discuss this with is your doctor as they have a history of your health and if its deemed unsuitable, then they can offer alternatives so that you remain protected for now but fertile for when that time comes!

Are you serious? Of course birth control pills will make it less likely that you will become pregnant.
If you are sexually active and are not married, then you should continue the pills.
I have heard that sometimes when you are on the pill for awhile, you can quit and your periods will still be regular.

I was in your shoes . I was on the 5 1/2 years, it took me 7 years to get pregnant, went on the 3 months and 2 years later I got pregnant again, I wsa 30 when I had my last one and it was c-section, so I had her cut my tubes. I figured 2 was enough. God blessed me with 2 healthy babies and that was great.

I hope not because I have been on birthcontrol since 14 too and I am 23...My eldest sister was in the same situation, and she is having a hard time trying to have a child. My older sister has already had a child....so I think it depends on the individual person and their reactions to the medication.
