HDTV already contains the HDTV tuner. HDTV ready, doesn't.

Just to add to what has already been said, late-model TVs must have a built-in tuner for digital TV by FCC directive. This does not have to be an HDTV tuner, but it almost alway is, especially if the TV can display HDTV pictures. HDTV-ready is a thing of the past.

HDTV- everything you watch on it is already converted to high definition setting
but with HDTV-ready - you can watch such videos on devices (HD camcorder) that are recorded on HD, dvd players (using the composite cables) ,etc.... with clarity almost same as with HDTV.
enjoy watching!

The cheaper one doesn't come with the tuner, but I'm not sure you need it if you have an HD converter box with your satellite or cable system.
