I would like to hear from anyone who has bipolar illness and takes lexapro to help treat depression and anxiety. If you do is it effective in your experience. Also if you have had insomnia has it helped you to sleep better as a result of alleviating your depression and/or anxiety? Thank you for your help.

Lexapro is generally prescribed for depression. It only worked for me for about a year. Now on Paxil CR and it's working well. However I need a sleeping pill every night. You might need another med for anxiety. Get a doctor/therapist to make a recommendation for you.

I am not bipolar, but I do take Lexapro for anxiety and depression. I know it works because when I was on vacation, I neglected to take it and started having panic attacks.

I took Lexapro for a few months for depression. It was also supposed to help for my mood swings. Lexapro made me experience horrible headaches and stomach problems. Apparently I'm one of the few people it negatively affected, but medicine affects everyone differently.

Lexapro is a treatment for depression and can be very helpful, but for bi-polar it is usually combined with other drugs as well. It could also help with anxiety and if that lessens you should sleep better. You don't say your age range, so that limits my answer. Today the standard treatments for bi-polar are usually combinations. good Luck!

Lexapro is an anti depresant and is used in cases of depression. It helps in relaxation as it is seducive. But it is not at all adviseable to take paychiatric medication without referring a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist. So please dont do it for in some cases it can also have sever negative side effects also.

Whenever I took Lexapro, it made me hallucinate. Different meds affect people differently, so in case you get any weird side affects, contact your doctor immediately. Hope this helps! :)
