Make an old fashioned poultice using Adolph's meat tenderizer. Depending on where the dog was stung you may have to devise a way to keep him from chewing it.This actually helps draw the venom out. And the other posters are correct, benadryl is fine for a dog, my vet recommended one per 20 pounds of weight. And do keep a close eye on it, if the area develops a hard lump, get to a vet immediately, that indicates necrosis, the meat under his fur is dying. If not caught soon enough that will continue to spread eventually killing the dog. My dog was bitten by something, either a snake or a spider while we were on vacation (a friend was watching her) and we didn't catch it for four days. By then she had a dead lump of skin the shape and size of a deflated football. It took several surgeries and thousands of dollars to save her (what can I say, I love my wife).

take him to a vet right away. I know that sounds a little melodramatic but I had a dog die from a sting once. If you don't want to take the dog right now, watch it VERY close to make sure it doesn't swell up really big. If it does, you need to get help. In the meantime, I would treat it with ice and maybe some benadryl; look it up on the Internet to make sure it is safe for your dog but I've had a vet tell me it was OK before.

I would not put anything on it, but if your dog is having a reaction you might need to give your dog an atihistamine like benadry based on weight of the dog. The dog may need a shot of epinephrine or benadry from the vet. Watch for hives or breathing problems in the dog. Hives are litte bumps, but look funny in a dog because they have hair. My dog just looked bigger and my other dog had a swolen eye. Keep watching your sweetie. Get him or her some help if needed and call the vet and ask how much benadryl to give. you can get liquid if you have a small dog. That way you can give a small dose. A large dog can take a broken tablet in cheese.

My husband's dog decided to eat a wasp nest and got stung like 6 times. Of course it was on the weekend so we couldn't take her to the vet. We called the emergency line and they told us to give her children's Benadryl every so often and keep an eye on her. That worked and she's fine.

For mild reactions, give Benadryl.
Here's a site with dosage by weight..

If reactions get worse, take to a vet.
