There is no "home remedy" for flea control. There are many myths about garlic and yeast, but they do not work. Frontline Plus or Revolution are both topical (between the shoulder blades) treatments and kill the adults, the larvae and the pupael stage and only need to be applied once a month to every 6 weeks, depending on if your cats are heavily infested or go outside. There are lots of online places you can buy these products that are a lot cheaper than the vet will charge, and you can also get both products in the largest size available (for dogs), and treat up to 4 cats per month for around $36 (or once opened, if you have less than 4 cats, put the medication in a small resealable container and use it the next time it's due)

Some people recommend using nutritional yeast as a preservative. For an infestation a flea bath and then bombing the whole house is the only thing I have found to be effective.
Now, I use REVOLUTION..the drops once a month on my cat's shoulder blades have saved me a fortune in flea bombs and a miserable cat.

There are certain herbs that fleas don't like. You can make a tea of them and wipe it onto the cats with a cloth. Also, try feeding kitty brewer's yeast and garlic.

Let me see if I can find a recipe for one of those flea treatments...

Here is one post I found:

A friend of mine said she used to buy huge bunches of chamomile and put them
around the corners of her house when she lived in Mexico. Those of you down
south may be able to find large bunches that are inexpensive but us Yanks...
well it would be cheaper to fly to Mexico and bring some back!
In my experience, pennyroyal and tansy are the best general bug repellant.
Pennyroyal can be planted around doors, foundations or kennels. Leaves can
be put in animal bedding, rubbed on your skin or pet's fur. You can even
braid pennyroyal around a string and use it as a flea/tick collar. It
smells a hole lot better than citronella too.
I didn't see any warnings about skin problems, even with little ones. The
only concern is if you are pregnant and then don't drink tea or ingest at
all.
Both are easy to grow and I didn't see that it mattered if it was European
or American pennyroyal. It also stands up to medium foot traffic. It is
definately on my list to put in around the porch and basement door.

And here is another:

I am the one that wrote about putting apple cider vinegar in your pets'
water or food to prevent fleas. My books says that "it makes the pet's blood
inhospitable to fleas". I also use raw garlic in their food as a flea
deterent and an immune booster. I give the dogs a bath once a month during
the summer months with a shampoo I buy at the pet store. It has all natural
ingredients and nothing harsh for their nervous systems or their skin. I
final rinse them with a Rosemary infusion and let them air dry. In between
baths, I spray or wipe them down (Raven hates to be sprayed) with the
infusion. As a preventative measure I also sprinkle borax mixed with EO of
penneyroyal and eucalyptus on the carpet, wait 30 minutes and vacuum. Makes
the house smell nice and if any critters did come in, that takes care of
them.

I hope this helps!

There is no home remedy that I know of which is safe and effective for fleas. Get Frontline from the vet, and don't be so cheap. LOL
