3 versions of Java runtime environment in my "add/remove programs" folder: SE 1.4.2_04; _05; _06.?

Do I need all three? They are 130 MB each.. not that big a deal, but I am wondering if this has something to do with my laptop's malaise.

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Keep the latest one and uninstall the previous two.
There will be no problem at all.

It's doubful they're the cause unless you're low on disk space. I believe JRE is up to 07 now, so you may wish to uninstall all three and then download the new version at:

http://www.java.com
